Does anyone have original exhaust on their car? In my quest for originality on my notchback(or close as possible), I acquired an original set of OEM Ford mufflers and tailpipes (cat-back) from a friend. He's had it sitting in his garage since 1987 when it was removed from a low mileage car. It's in amazing shape with no rust!
The original owner of my car had the mufflers and flow-tubes replaced some years ago. The flow tubes had holes in them and it sounded bad with the exhaust leak. The mufflers were Walker Dynomax and were welded poorly to the original tailpipes.
I installed the OEM Ford stuff today. Everything fit perfectly & I'm extremely happy with the results! The car is SO quiet I can't believe it! I haven't driven a Mustang with stock exhaust since the early 90's! Since the notchback is my stock cruiser and the GT is my loud modified one, I have the best of both worlds. Plus, the judges will be a little kinder at the shows! :) I never thought I'd be happy putting stock "quiet" exhaust on one of my cars!
Here's a few pics:

thats very cool, I know somebody that would almost kill to have those mufflers. He has a Low mile Capri under thousand miles and a hole rusted thru on one of the mufflers. He had to but a aftermarket muffler on it.

I have the original exhaust on my Kentucky State Police SSP car. I have the original mufflers that came off of the car but they are a little rough. The car has a replacement Ford Muffler on it now.

Still have factory exhaust on my GT. The SVO rotted away & was replaced w/ Magnaflow mufflers w/ stainless tips.

I would like to find an NOS catback for my GT. I'll leave the Flowmaster catback (only non stock item on the car) on it for awhile though just cause I like how it sounds.

Which aftermarket company makes the most "stock looking" tailpipes? (85GT) I am not interested in all the 3"+ tips out there. I am interested in a as close to stock cat back system...
Any suggestions? Pics in catalogs, internet, etc. do not always tell the whole story.
Thanks,
Jonathan

While my stock lx cat back is used, it is in comparable shape to yours, I don't know if I'll ever use it, but I can't come to part with it though.

The 85 COupe I am trading my CHP to my Brother for was originally that brown metalic color. Originally a CFI auto too... Now it's a carb 5 spd. I wish I had found it still brown aa that would have been a much better color to have I think.
Nice car by the way.

Thanks! I really like the color too. People don't know what to think when I tell them that I have a brown Mustang. When they see it, most really like it. It usually draws a lot of attention at shows and on the road too. I like having something different from everyone else.

I replaced mine about 5 years ago with a similar setup, I still have the stainless tips. That person retired but I found another guy that is so good he measures everything by eye. He is amazing to watch. People like him are a dying breed. He replaced my 68' exhaust system, it is perfect now, perfect fit and up nice and high.

When going for an original look I always used the 2 1/4" Dynomax catback kit with the super turbo mufflers. It's as close to stock looking as I've found. Sounds nice also.

The setup on my 85 GT looks just like the one in the pic posted. You should be able to see some of it in my GT album.

My 86 has a stock exhaust on it, though it's not the original. The orig owner had put an aftermarket exhaust on it in the early 90's. The second put a factory original complete exhaust back on it in 96 I believe and it is still there. Unfortunately it is going to be in need of being replace here shortly. I also would like to keep it as close to possible as factory but having found what exhaust I will use yet.

Do you have the part number stamped on the muffler?
