I saw these yesterday, I am 99% sure there wasn't a "buy it now" then.

Question & Answer Answered On Q: Do you have a Buy It Now price for these? Jul-24-08 A: Hello, I better not because these already have a lot of interest and I know they are super rare and it is safe to say that they will never be reproduced. Thanks, Jeff

Yet, there's the BIN price of 400 bucks and they're NLA. Interesting.

the GT repro's are not exact duplicate. The GT is a see through window, showing the painted body color underneath.
( so i think?)

No RS ones have been duped.

I emailed the guy if he had a BIN. I saw the auction when it was only 2 hours old. He said he was not going to do a BIN and was not going to end the auction.

Of course later he ended the auction.

Well, with his 400.00 BIN he put up, and the fact that the auction didn't even end with BIN, I wonder just how much he actually got.

My guess around $500. They are probably worth $250 per side.

Yes, they are made out of unobtainium.

I know they are not as rare as the RS one's, but any one got an idea of what a pair of Ford NOS 85-86 GT ones are worth?

I sold a set on ebay a couple of years ago for $200.

I would add $50 to that now. So $250. The repros will kind of take the edge of the NOS ones.

The "GT" molding value will be determined soon - this seller has a set of those... look at his "other auctions".
I would like to believe that whoever bought the "RS" set is a member on this site. Is it possible there are more of us out there!!! :)

DO this. Take the moulding carefully off the car, submerge them in Bleche Wite (tire cleaner found at most stores). The paint SHOULD come off with no harm to the mouldings. It may work well enough that you don't have to paint them again!

The insides are silver and the outside is charcoal grey.

Thanks Mike! I have always used spray nine or mean green for cleaning my tires. Bleche Wite, can this be found anywhere? I don't recall every seeing such a tire cleaner. Sounds like a paint stripper. Knowing how rare these moldings are I'm scared to mess them up. Thanks again Mike

You have to hope the moldings did not get sanded when being prepped for the paint that is on them now.

It's called Bleeche White and it's in a white bottle. Very nasty stuff - cleans tires up nice but will eat clearcoat on wheel - but OK for vinyl.

i have been holding on to my set now for about 17 years & my current 85 never came with them.

It can be strong stuff as a cleaner but it is NOT nasty as compared to paint stripper. It will not really harm the plastic. Let them soak for 12 hours and check them and see if the paint will come off with scrubbing. Let them soak for 24 hours and the paint should easily come off. I have not had BW hurt or discolor plastic.

As was mentioned, hope they weren't sanded before painting.

FWIW,
I would call the "RS" part of the molding a light/milky gray, not silver.
Not trying to be persnickety, but if you are building a show car and have to fill in the lettering, silver might not look quite right.
I assume it is the same light gray as the GT moldings.

Now to bore you with baseless conjecture... I think the molding is a two piece "sandwich".
One side of the "back part" attaches to the car, and the other side is finished in the gray. Then, it seems like the outer layer is attached over it. The outer layer has a cutout for the "RS" (or GT) to show through.
The outer layer is the graphite/dark gray. The inner back part is light gray on both sides (as if it is molded in that color).
MY POINT IS.... I don't think that the GT/RS letters were ever painted or filled in. It is just the color of the inner layer being exposed.

Sorry if this gave anyone a headache.

You soaked them in a bucket with pure BW over the top of them?

On some parts that are pained really well, you need to break/crack the paint a bit. The primer will start loosening up first. If the paint has not been compromised, its tough for BW to get under it. Check the edges.

The paint might not dissolve, it may just flake off.

Yep 100% BW in the bucket. Submerged.

I will keep an eye on it....its taking the foam backing off though..LOL
