Does anyone know if the stock 85 "powered by ford" valve covers will clear 1.7 rockers? Thanks!

they suck tho.. i have had 2 sets on mine .. the ford blue ones and the ford motorsport ones .. and they both blow oil out the breathers.. and with a high volume oilpump it does it really bad.. so i plugged one side and welded a lil extender like the fuel injected valve covers

With bolt-down rockers, there should be no need to remove the baffles. The factory
covers actually clear better than the FMS and other aftermarket covers. Of course,
you should always test by putting the rockers in place loosely and rotating the engine.
On Twisted Wedge heads, these covers even clear polylocks with the baffles in place.
(On my engines, removing valve cover baffles is not acceptable. Ever.)

I had those covers with stud mount 1.6 rockers and the PO had removed the baffles for clearance. The oil mess is indeed unacceptable to me, so I now have tall valve covers with baffles.
On a side note, the "powered by Ford" covers brought a good price for me on ebay, even though I clearly specified that the baffles had been removed.

Thanks for the info guys, maybe I will just go with some tall covers, I def do not want any oil slicks on my clean new engine. :) The tall Trick Flow black ones look pretty nice to me.

Cant I just double up on the valve cover gaskets? I have a set of the factory finned valve covers and want to run them on my 85 LX. I also have the dual snorkel air cleaner.

Again. Unless you're running stud mounts, you don't have to. My '85 is running
the blue FMS bolt-down rockers, under stock valve covers, with baffles.
The factory '85 covers have more clearance than the aftermarket covers. Not
a -lot- more, but enough.

Double valve cover gaskets is begging for a leak.
