I was looking at differemt posts and I wanted to know, why we like the fox body somuch. In my case Iv allways like the mustang its just the total american icon. I mean whereelse in the world can you fiend a mustang (horse). And take a piece of junk and make it run 10.00 second 1/4 mile that you can bulid in your gurage or make into a work of art. or just buld one just to drive.
What do you think. Why do you like the FOX body?

Going to sound corny. When I was 11 my dad got an 88 trunk. 4 cyl stripper car, no power windows, 5 speed, no ac. It was his work car. After that he got a 93 hatch, 4 cyl (again) but auto/ac/pw. Guess I wanted to be like my dad. I like the 86 year b/c last year for 4 eye and 1st year for fuel injection. My 1st vert, an 84, was obtained with inheritance from my great aunt. had to get rid of it and wanted another 4 eye since.

I like em because they can take as much as you can dish out and still be dependable daily drivers. Plus there are not a lot of them in my area so most people don't realize it's even a Mustang.

I like them because they were the cool car back when I was in high school back in the late eighties. I have alot of memories of having of bunch of fun in these cars.
Plus they are pretty rare today if they are in decent shape. Lots of high school kids tore up alot of these cars having fun in them.

Becaus my 4eye looks mean; they are light, generally fast for their dollar investment, and personalizable to no end. Plus, they brought back muscle to the anemic auto industry.

I always wanted a classic, my older brother had a 65 coupe, my dad had a 69 fast back. They restored both of them and after a few years, they sold them. When I turned 16 I thought I was going to be lucky enough to own one (like most kids, figured I was entitled to one since there had been a few in the family before) but my Dad just would not let me have one. He was tired of doing resto work on classic mustangs and refused (rightfully so) to pay the money for one in great condition for my first car.
I settled for a compromise, an 89 LX hatch 5.0 5 speed. Turned out to not be a compromise at all! Car was in good condition, had 140K on it and only cost 3000 dollars. A/C blew cold, everything worked. We spent about 2800 dollars rebuilding/modding the motor, and the car ran a 12.6, looked great, got okay gas mileage and was a comfortable car. I was in love!
After parting ways with that car when I was in college, I bought a 93 Cobra that had 42K miles on it, moved to Colorado and the weather was just not conducive to keeping it.
Now I have my first 4 eye, an 85 GT. Not quite ready for daily driver status, but getting there!
I guess I'm like sableboy in a way, wanted to be like my Dad and brother. Can't get the fox out of my mind now.

I used to be a Pontiac guy but when I got my first Mustang in 1984 I realised that the Mustang is easier to work on, parts are cheaper and more plentiful, the Mustang has a more comfortable seating position and they are generally alot more usable as everyday transportation. Not to mention the fact that since the 1981 Trans Am went away Mustangs are much, much better looking.

I have a long history with the fox bodies, I guess I am very comfortable with them. I have probably owned close to 20. I know them inside out. They are so easy to work on. They are the coolest low budget street car, for me. My first one was a 78 Zephyr 4cyl, 4spd. Not much to look at, but for some strange reason that 2.3 screamed. I will never know why, must have been one of them cars where everything was just right from the factory. I never saw another factory one run like that, even thu fuel injected ones. I remember smokin VWs left and right, but couldn't beat the turbo cars. All I did was mess with the carb and jetted it, and of course timming and hotter plugs and the usuall stuff. Was scheduled for a 289 I built for it, But circumstances beyond my control, the kind with red & blue lights, forced me to send it to the crusher before its time. My favorite, was my 82 capri rs. That one ended up getting the 289. An incident with a bridge and a shady get-away also sent that one to the crusher. I have since calmed down, and got my liscense back! When I get in my 86 with the 351, I am a little more careful when matting the go pedal, but it always takes me back to a simpler time, when if you didn't have a v8, people wouldn't give you the time of day. Man, I miss it! Anyway, Half my life and most of my fondest memories where always spent in the seat, front or back, on the hood, under the hood or on the hatch of a fox body four eye. I believe I will always own one. Now that I am bawling, I hope you guys understand....I KNOW you do.

Well, i'm 16, but i've always been stuck in the 80's. I have to have everything 80's. lol I was talking to my nephew who doesn't like foxes and asked me the same question. I could go on forever. But I love that everyone recognizes it as a "5.0 Mustang", I love the rough driving experience, I love there "ugly" beauty as some see, Everything about them. At a mustang show there can be a pristine shape 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 and an okay shape stock 93 GT next to it, and i'll forget the shelby exist and check out the 93. I am so in love with foxes I can't express it.
I like the fox-body Mustangs in particular cause they're about the only generation of Mustang to truly break with many of the traditional design cues that the Mustang has clung to since its inception. They look totally unlike any other Mustang, but still maintain the spirit of the original Mustangs quite well.
I'm not sure why I keep finding myself drawn to Mustangs. My main criteria when buying cars is RWD and ease of maintenance. I don't want something so complicated that I have to pay someone else to work on it.
My first car was a Mustang II. Since then I've owned 4 4-eyes, 5 if you count the car I borrowed from my dad for 6 months while I was restoring a second gen Camaro.......I needed something to drive while the Camaro was in pieces.

Haha, I just read this post and enjoyed it. It was nice to read something a little more realistic about experiences with these cars. Most guys on here never talk much about screamin around there streets from time to time, but i'm sure they did. While I don't know foxes as well as you do, I feel the same. All the stuff i've learned about cars has been on my fox or about it. I used to know alot, but didn't realy know how to work on a car, 6 months with this thing, and I have learned to do all kinds of stuff. I really hardly ever pay attention or worry about non-fox cars. I find the need to analyze every fox I spot on the road. lol This weekend I went to Georgia with my bro, and we drove by this house with a huge yard. The guy had a '65 Ford Fairline, a '63 Impala, and an '87 Turbo coupe parked out there. All looked to need some restoration. I paid no attention to the other two and went, "Man, look at that poor old Turbo coupe sittin there rotting''. lol Foxes are just the coolest imo. I think it's cool that an '86 Mustang in it's day was one of the fastest on the street.

they are the only mustangs that dont look like mustangs. that is why I didn't want one. they dont get the respect that an older mustang gets. I would prefer a 66 thru 70 one but I now have 2 foxes.
by the way...sitting at a little cruise inn one night I did notice the fox has one body line the new ones dont. that is the curve by the rear window that sends the side body line back downword to the end of the trunk. the one thing I dont like about the new ones is that the side body line continues upward to the rear of the car making it look like it has a big butt.

for me it was when i started working at the local ford dealer and befriended a tech and he gave me a ride in his 81 notchback with a 460 in it been hooked ever since, after that i bought the general manager's 88 T-Bird w/ every option but sunroof and leather, that was the best car i ever owned, it had it all comfort, power and ever since i sold it been looking for that rush, and looked back to the mustang for it and found it in my 82 GT my old 85 hatch was the only other one that was on the road but sold that for some stupid reason (needed money) i will spend countless hours researching, looking for parts, etc for these cars, it has become an obsession now. and i love every minute of it!
