i`ve owned a 83 black magic. all stock when i bought it in 1991. got it for 1500. it had previous quarter damage but looked great. I was 18 and it was my second fox(81 t-top orange 4cyl)the only mod was a stereo with two tens and a 15 and a giant amp. I was at the movies and came out to see the hatch had been ripped open and everything gone. so off to the yard for a hatch, needless to say,who knew about how rare the 83 black magic was so I got a hatch off a 88 gt that was driven home by a dealer and ran head on with a tree. I also picked up the rear bumper and side effects. you see where this is going huh? needless to say I still held on to the parts but after sitting in my yard til around maybe 2005 it was just beyond what i wanted to get into. I sold it to jay and sons hoping he would restore it but after that i heard all the stories about him, hopefully he holds onto it but i saw it on craigslist for way more than i sold it(gave him)
I also had a 83 crimson cat i got off ebay. i knew what that was and bought it privately. the only downside was it had a 351, 5-speed, 8.8, non matching front seats. so it wasn`t worth restoring for me.
now with all the knowledge from this forum I know the rare cars. I guy down the street from me when i was 18 had 2 mclaren capri conv. he was selling one for a couple grand, but i didnt have that laying around then, wish i did because they are badass.well thats my stories

I had a white magic 82 originally with a 255 and C4 trans. Unfortunately it rusted away slowly in college and then I ultimately got a 90 LX 5.0. Had I known how rare my car was when I got it, I would have left the stripes and rims on it and likely would have taken extra care to return it back to its former glory. As they say, hindsight is 20/20.

Presently own a 1982 BM Capri with 5.0, 5spd, 8.8 rear, and T-tops. Under restoration. Didn't know the car was a special model so I dumped the interior, the wheels, and repainted the car 16 years ago.

here's some pics from the first good cleaning i gave her... i've since turned the scoop back the right way. I'll try to snap a few better pics tomorrow.

edit: to adjust the handbrake on it, do i have to remove the center column? if so is there a way to do this without massive amounts of swearing, sweating, and more swearing?

very nice ive never seen a magic with rear spoiler delete, also your hood scoop is backwards or is that my eyes lol. she sure is pretty you can see mine in the thread look at my blackmagic now post in the blk magic sectionthnx for the pics yours originally came with no spoiler and that scoop or are these changes you made?the ebrake thing i thinks thats the only way to adjust it i know it sucks.

bridgener
08-23-2008, 11:37 PM
actually the hatch was replaced at some point, along with the rear light assembly. I'll eventually find a spoiler but for now my main concern is just getting it licensed. All i need to replace now are two flexible front brake hoses, tighten the handbrake up and weld up some makeshift rear exit exhaust. Right now it just has turndowns. Hopefully i'll have some custom widened trx's for the back soon!

And yeah, I got it with the hood scoop on backwards. It was the first thing i fixed!

If not, try readjusting your rear brakes. Often the car's rear brakes aren't replaced as often as the fronts. They useally last longer then the fronts.

here's some pics from today. I got the wheel/tire package put on 3 weeks ago. Soon to have a mac catback system come in the mail. That's the last thing that's left on my "to do" list that inspection gave me when I failed. Hopefully i'll get it in before wintertime so I can actually drive this thing!

Hey,

To be honest, I've been wondering the same thing ever singe I dragged it out this summer... no gold trx's, interior not normal, chrome door handles... The hatch and front and rear clips were replaced, and the car was re-sprayed. Something's fishy. Here's a pic of my tag, no sign of CAT anywhere. So, what exactly do I have here?? Please tell me it's not a 4.2 in there lol.

dude you are missin a few key blk magic items like for instance the seats which can be explained your locks and handles should be blk, no spoiler,no gold and blk grill which yours could have been painted, woodtone gauge fasia it should be a swerrely blk also, but what also bugs me is your body molding has the painted gold lines which is blkmagic look on the buck tag mine is located in front of the radiator i beleve top right it will say cat if its really a blk magic.good luck.

SchoolBoy
09-21-2008, 01:57 AM
Ya 85bubblebackboy got it. The buck tag will be up on your radiator, usally on the drivers side, sometimes up top, down behind the headlights, under a support braket. You just have to look hard some times. You may want to post that pic over in the decoding section. With a build date of 06/82 its definatly a 5.0, but it might be an 83 B/M. Witch if someone didn't like the bubble hatch means they swapped it for the flat type and that why your missing decals Same with the front end, the interior however is still not right.....

Hey! looks like you need a couple of cat head decals for that ride! I just posted a couple of NOS decals on eBay this weekend. I don't think I can post a link here, but if you look on eBay I'm sure you'll find them.

I think the interior code on the standard bucket seats for the black magic would of been PA. The one on the door tag is DA.

Car lookin pretty damn nice. keep up the good work.

Even if it turns out not to be, you can always make it look like one. I have played with idea with my red RS...

09-23-2008, 07:27 AM
It isn't one (see the Decoding forum) but it seems the car may have been ordered with the Gold Accent Stripe option that was standard on the Black Magic. In '82 it was optional on the base Capri and the Capri L.
