I am in the process of changing my 84 ho flat tappet cfi to a carb. It originally came with a tfi hall effect factory distributor that I think was run by the eec cfi computer. I want to convert the distributor to the Ford vacuum advance distributors that came on the factory carb ho motors.........Is it better to change to an aftermarket system.....if so which one......car is essentially street driven....thanks for any help!

i swapped to the msd ready to run pro-billet distributor and blaster coil, it was easy enough to hook up and adjust, so it was worth it to me. and it cleans up the engine compartment of all the duraspark stuff, well at least on my car it did.

A factory distributor for the carb'ed '84 HO engine is always a safe bet. It's been my
experience that Fords rarely need an aftermarket distributor, and the factory piece is
already calibrated to work with your engine unless you're doing some major mods.
You could also use the '85 distributor -IF- you change the gear.
