A guy nearby has an '83 LX 'vert for sale, says $1600 firm. Exterior is in nice shape, blue metallic paint not oxidized. One 3-4" crack behind RR wheel, and passenger side trim at the door top edge and along the edge of the top just behind the door is loose. No other obvious external damage. Little to no visible rust. Interior is gray vinyl, has some wear and split seams, but not too bad. Some decent seat covers would take care of that. Missing a trim cover in the rear passenger's side that covers up the convt. mechanism. Inside underneath of the top has some pieces hanging down, just looks like it may need to be re-sewn. Top looks good on the exterior. Odo says 48xxx, but who knows if it's 48, 148 or 248? Auto trans, V-6, has A/C. Overall, looks decent for a 25 year old car. Is this a good buy? I've heard the V-6 had some issues regarding head gaskets and oil consumption. I'll need to call the guy to go back and take a look under the hood and maybe start it up and go for a drive. I know 5.0's pretty well, having owned one for 20 yrs, but I know little about the 3.8 V-6's. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should look for? I could probably post some pics if anyone wants to see anything specific.

Thanks,
mkl

sounds like a pretty good deal to me. i would look for rust, that is a big problem with foxes.

This is probably a "GLX" but it is definitely not an LX. There was no LX model before '84.

Perhaps I am biased in my opinion ( I have an '83 'vert), but $1,600 sounds good considering the shape it is in. I bought mine for $1,100 last November. My whole intention was to restore back to original as time and money allowed. It sounds like you have a lot less work ahead of you that I do. Grab it because these cars are pretty rare. I have yet to see a clean '79-'86 'vert roaming the streets of L.A. v6 or otherwise.
