I found a stock 1985 GT with 118,000 miles for sale. The owner said his two boys drove the car and he had the engine rebuilt at 100,000 miles. The car looks good, clean, and the runs ok. The front end is a little lose. Just wanted to know if is asking price of $3,500 is too high, and what should I look for when inspecting the car?

Thanks

Are you looking for a daily driver or a project car? My number one concern when buying a fox body is the integrity of the unibody. Check the fender gaps by the doors, that's a tell tale sign whether or not the car's been hit. Also, check the radiator support both the upper and lower part, as well as how well the hood lines up with the top of the bumper cover. This will tell you if the car's been in a fender bender before.

Other than that, $3500 is a very fair price for a nice condition fox body, especially an 85 GT. I'm always willing to pay a little more for a clean, straight car. It will save you considerable time and aggravation later down the road. Your time is valuable - time equals money!

Be sure to check the drivers side floorpan where the seat bolts at. When I bought my 85 GT it didn't have any rust but the pan was busted from the rocker panel to the trans tunnel.
