I have 2 79 pace cars (just got them both recently). Both are sunroof cars and both are missing headliners..
I have a couple questions. I "think" (if I remember right, from back in the day! LOL) these are supposed to have vinyl type headliners like the older cars right? Do they have a fiberboard backing above them like the newer vehicles or just stretched material like the older ones? If they have the fiberboard backing, is it the same as the newer mustangs with sunroofs (like 83 - 93 cars)???
Where can I buy a headliner for these cars and where can I get the fiber board backing if its available???
Thanks for any and all help..

Thanks

Scott

Do what I did go buy a 4x8 white melamine board from Menards for ten bucks and trace out a new one and cut it out and save 140$

The headliner in my '79 was ruined from rot around the sunroof so I had to get another board. I went to the junkyard and bought one our of another Mustang (I think it was an '84) for $10.00. I then went to a Jo-Ann Fabrics store and bought a big piece of Black Vinyl for $8.00. The vinyl doesn't match the OEM piece but I'm o.k. with that. Only a "True" afficianado would know that it isn't "right".

I then took a Lacquer Thinner soaked rag and wiped the board down, taking off the old glue and the foam padding. When dry, I rolled on contact adhesive and layed the vinyl on top of the cardboard, starting at one end and slowly laying it down. From there, I trimmed all outer edges with a utility knife. In the middle of the sunroof, I cut an "X" into the opening. I then reinstalled the headliner and loaded up the steel opening with GOOP adhesive. I then stretched the headliner through the opening and secured it with something like 50 clothespins. Fourty eight hours later, I removed them and trimmed all excess material with the utility knife. I was able to do the entire job for less than $25.00.
