I think I took this out of a Capri Black Magic, but I can't remember. Maybe someone will know by the center pad emblem. What years would/will it fit?

Center emblem is Mercury for sure. The wheel is early mustang/capri, guessing 1979 thru 82. Never seen that type wheel in a 83 model year.

I can't get specific on the years, but you could get that in a lot of different Ford products from the mid seventies to the early eighties. I've seen them in first generation Granadas, Fairmonts, LTD IIs, I got one out of a 79 Mustang parts car to use in my 85 Coupe and there's one in my 78 High Boy pickup. I don't know if it's original to the truck. I doubt it.
Some were synthetic leather,or vinyl, and some were real leather.
The center cap is fragile and therefore difficult to find in good shape. One of mine is missing and the other one is broken. Some are purely decorative and some function as the horn. My Mustang's is decorative and the truck's is the horn.

Thanks for all the info guys. How can this be used on an '85? Wouldn't the column need to be changed? Another question, was tilt available in the early years? I've never seen one if there was.

79-82 Fox car 'Sport' wheel, also the earlier Bronco/Zephyr/Cougar/Fairmont wheel. Splined center shaft versus the 'D' spline later 83-up wheel. I have 3 of them in my garage

I have the steering column from the 79 Mustang parts car in my 85. Because of the steering wheel and the horn on the turn signal switch wiring.

This is how I fixed my crappy looking emblem in the steering wheel. My horn button was on the column (same stick as the high beam) but the horn function now controls my MSD 2-step. I gave some thought a while back about cutting the center out of the steering wheel and making my own wheel to bolt / or weld to the stock hub-I deciced against it when I went on e-bay to see what they are going for. $125 was the cheapest one I could find, so I decided no to do it.

If your '85 does not have the tilt column, just swap out the steering shaft, no need to buy the entire steering column from the wrecking yard. The draw back is it takes a bit of dismantling to remove the steering shaft.

YEP! I had a piece of aluminum stock in my toolbox for some while looking for a use for it. Got bored one night and started playing on the lathe.

That looks nice. Very nice.
And what is going for $125+?!?!?:omg:
Jax, can you post a pic of your center? My truck has a Big Blue Oval in the center and I thought it wasn't original. Maybe it is.

flip it over and see if it has the rings for the horn button. It could be a truck one.
I'll trade you any day of the week.
if there's no rings then the horn is on the column for you foxy folk.. ;)

Im gonna see if I can fix mine. I think I may have broken it, playing with it!
I figured out the plastic mount the wheel center is on, holds it with 3"bolts".
