Hey Guys,
I just bought a rear end for my '84 Big Block project. Its out of a '90 GT and its an 8.8 with 4 lugs. My question is whats the widest rim/tire combo I can run with the 15" rims? I'm looking into Weld Draglites or something like that and I'm wondering what backspacing I'll need to run a 10" wide wheel.
Thanks for any and all input.

Oh forgot to mention that since it was a 4 cyl car, it has no quad shocks to worry about. Thanks!

A 10" wheel will require a mini-tub to fit if you want to keep it inside the fender. A 8" wide wheel will fit with 5.5 backspace.

With some minor beating on the inner fender you can run a 15x10 w/ 6.5bs. No mini tubing or cutting required. I'd recommend rolling the outer lip of the quater panel just to make sure you don't cut up your expensive tires.

My friend has 15x10 5.5 backspace, runs airbags, they fit fine inside, and stick out approx 1/4 inch.
The above post works also.

both above work, the 6.5 backspacing looks a little better

I am running a 275 tire on a 9.5 rim with a 5" back space on my 84 Capri with a 1988 8.8 rear end. The tire sticks out about 1/2 an inch. My guess is a 5.5 back space would have been almost perfect. At some point I am going to try to get the back space on the rims changed if I can. The tires in the pic below are Riken Raptors, I just got 275 BF T/A Drag Radials in back and they stick out about 1/4 inch more then the ones in the pic.
Hope this helps,
Robert
