What calipers can i use for my stock brake system on my 85?
im having a very hard time finding brake parts for it at all my local autoparts stores. They are always out of the 5.0 specific stuff, yet have SVO parts out the ass.
What cars can i also get the comparable front calipers from?

If memory serves me correctly, you can only use the SVO calipers with the 87-93 5.0 spindles. So you might want to upgrade. But if you're going to upgrade it might just be better to upgrade to the SN-95 stuff.

SVO and crown vic and town car mid 80's calipers are all basically the same but you can't bolt them on directly to 86 and earlier cars. They will fit if you use 87-93 V8 spindles and rotors.
The only thing that is a direct bolt-on for the earlier cars is the earlier parts.
Try NAPA for the correct parts for your car, they should have them or be able to pick them up from their local DC.

Just do the usual mods to get the brakes to work the best they can. Shave the rotors to make sure they are true. Install braided stainless steel brake lines, and good semi-metallic pads from Hawk or another good company. Unless you're trying to haul your car down from some triple digit speeds from drag racing or corner carving a couple times a month, it's not worth spending the extra money on a daily driver.

if the car in your sig is the vehicle in question ,then i think your front rotors are only 10" in diameter. meaning the caliper is probably different. the 87-93 mustang 4 cylinders also had 10" brakes so you may want to compare those. also check a ranger (2 wheel drive of course) same year as your car. i'll see if i can dig anymore concrete info up.

An 85 gt has 10 inch rotors on the front. When properly functioning with decent pads they work OK for normal driving. I've also got a rear disc setup from a turbo coupe, and my brakes are still pretty sad for anything more than daily driving. At the track they are downright frightening. Of course I do have no-name semi-metallics on it courtesy of the p/o. I tried using satisfied pads on it last summer on the reccomendation of someone on stangnet, and they were horrible. Worse than the who knows what is on there now. Yes, you can use SVO calipers, but like others have said you have to use 87 up V8 spindles and the 11 inch rotors for everything to line up. Which also means different soft lines, and either new front shocks or some spacers because the spindles are thinner. I'm likely going to go this route on my car because I want to stay 4 lug (I like my 10 holes) and I really need better brakes. But for you properly functioning stock brakes may be fine. I'm sure any parts store can get the right parts, they just might not stock them. It is a 23 year old car after all.

If you really want to be cheap about it, just find a junked 87-93 5.0 and strip the complete front suspension/brakes off of it. I found a 88GT awhile back that had a bad motor for $350. I should have jumped on it when I had the chance.
