I asked a similar question in the Mod section and got no response. Thought I'd try it here. Not an exciting task but I want to change all of my vacuum lines on my 85. Not all are totally shot but they can't last much longer. All emmisions are intact so there's a bunch of lines and it is a bit over whelming. How would you go about doing this? I don't think anyone makes OE style replacement or a complete kit. Looking for any and all suggestions.

Good question.

I'd love to know too.

It's be great if somebody had a 100% stock car and lots of time to take fotos of every little bit of the engine bay.

Seems like the hobby isn't quite there yet. Its tough to get exact info on engine bay restoration.

My car is 100% original as far as the vacuum lines. Now you made me feel guilty because I feel obilgated to to document all those damn lines! For now I may just replace the ones that are obviously bad. and clean up the one that are not.

You can buy replacement vaccum lines by the foot from Pepboys

I know you can buy hose, but many of my lines are color coded and have formed bends. When your trying to keep things as close to original looking as possible you lose a great deal of detail with just off the shelf hose.

If I have to buy off the shelf hose, I was hoping someone more detailed than I maybe did this before and kept a record of how much of each size was needed.

Hi Curtis, did you ever attempt the cheap gold cad idea silver/gold paint? Back on track,I dealt with the same issues with my original 1983 5.0 Capri. There is a heck of a mess when it comes to the vacuum lines on these carb cars! I really didn't keep a record of size or length when I did the job,SORRY. Like you mentioned, I only replaced the worst lines. The better looking lines I sprayed with silicone spray, works O.K. As far as those lines that have certain bends and what not about them, heres what I did. I went to a wrecking/salvage yard and looked for any late make/model cars and trucks and pulled only similar looking hoses(brought my old ones with me to match up). If you wanted to colour match markings on specific hoses, you could mask them and spray with water base paints. Honestly I thought about this a long period of time(colour coding the lines)and decided not to seemed like a lot of work and my brother thought I was NUTS.But if your if your a pay attention to detail guy, it's skies the limit.:D
