To keep the thread's manageable, I am resting the first thread and starting a new one to capture the bodywork/paint.

In case you missed it, here is a link to the other thread with additional pictures.

Here are a few teaser pictures of the body work as it begins. I am scheduled down Friday at the body shop to do the front/rear bumper removals and to drop the k-member/suspension so the engine bay can be sprayed and the new springs/shocks/caster-camber pieces put back on.

The first pictures of the body work:

Your first section of links appear to be copy/pasted links that have been automatically truncated by board software, like they were copied from the text of a post on another message board.

To copy them correctly, either go to that original post you made on that board, click the 'edit' button and copy the links from THERE as they should not be truncated, or if someone else made the post, click the quote 'quote' button and you'll be able copy the links from there as well.

Thanks, I didn't realize it didn't work. I took a different approach and just pasted a link to the first thread.

Stripped down the engine bay today, going to scotch brite it on Tuesday. Also next week the stock rear-end comes out and the 8.8 with 3:73's already in it goes in.

The stock rearend is ready to come out. I have to take out the donor 8.8 rear end and then swap it in.

A bit of a disappointment. It looks like the passenger floor board is softer than first thought (would be ok for a while, but then need to be replaced), so since the driver side was already replaced and after all the disassembly I decided now was the time to replace it so I ordered it today.

Oh well, I guess that's project cars for ya ;)

Engine bay is ready to be taped off and sprayed. Once complete, I'll snap some pictures to share.

Well, the 8.8 rear end is in along with the KYB shocks and the Eibach springs.

Like a doornob, I didn't paint the rear end first before installing so I'll have to do it on the car. Been there, done that before though.

A couple pics with the rear end in. Still waiting on the left rear quarter to show up so it can be installed.

OK, getting frustrated. What does it take to get a 1/4 panel. I waited on my body man for a couple months saying he had ordered it. He called the supplier and they said they were going to do a new stamping, but when he called late last week they still hadn't done it.

Thinking I'd take matters in my own hands, I ordered a panel from MustangsUnlimited. The guy calls me on Sunday to verify the Truck shipping rate (Yikes:omg:) and said it would ship Monday. I went to their website to look at my order Monday night hoping to find when it would arrive, and the orders says the panel is backordered. Geeeezz.

All we are waiting on for parts to put the final push to paint is that 1/4. Oh well, patience ObiWan.

Well if you were needing a passenger quarter I'd give you one hell of a deal on a perfect used one, but hopefully you get your new one ASAP.

Just talked to Mustangs Unlimited. They said the part is on national back order.

Are you kidding, that piece is available at any body part supply house, at least here in KC. And maybe you already took care of new decals, if not they are available at Phoenix Graphics, and they are perfect reproductions, different colors too.

Can you PM me with some contact info on parts houses there in KC. I'm with you, this thing should be readily available.

Yes, I picked up the set from Phoenix Graphics you are talking about. I was pleased to find them.

That sucks about the panel Dakota. Hopefully something will turn up soon for you with summer around the corner finally. I'm hoping to finally be able to get mine out of the garage this weekend. Maybe one of the next Saturdays after that the boy and I will make a roadtrip your way to check it out.

We're going to put the sander to the one thats on there and see how much falls off and how much holds. If we can patch it, we'll try that route. I'm also scouting the used parts businesses to see if I can find one reasonable.

Called CJ PONY parts as well. The salesman flat told me there is only one business stamping those panels, and they are not currently doing it. At this time, with no ETA, he said don't hold your breath for a new one.

TMAN, swing on through some time. I'm just west of Beresford about 1 1/2 miles on highway 46 and 3/4 south. Just watch for the mustangs going up and down that 3/4 of a mile of gravel  road.

No worries! Thanks for the tip. Things have sloooooowed way down due to deer being on the move (and meeting face to face with autos!). My body man has had to switch gears for a bit but hopefully he'll get back to it soon.

I ordered new brake lines, so I am going to get them installed as soon as they arrive, along with painting the 8.8

I have a NOS Ford right quarter panel I would sell you for $400.

Hopefully not too off topic.
I saw decals from Phoenix Graphics and the word perfect - do they have the correct color hatch decal for a 85 GT. I bought one from Mustangs Unlimited and it's gloss black.
Looks like you Dominator is coming along nicely.

To be honest I haven't held it up to the old one to determine if it is more glossy or not. I'll try and check that.

As far as the car, I was hoping to have it done by June, but that looks like a pipe dream now. My next target is labor day, when we have the Sturgis (SD) mustang rally in the black hills. It would be fun to show up with a 4-eye in and amongst all those s197 cars that most assuredly will be there.

As for quarters, do you have a good salvage yard nearby that you could quarter a car from? Once quartered, you could just reskin yours with the skin from the salvaged quarter.

My body man called with good news. He was just getting ready to attempt to fabricate some of the metal around the outer wheel well where it had rusted through when the supplier he orders body panels from called. They had just stamped out new quarter skins for the fox mustang and ours was being shipped.

I need to find out who he gets suppled from but these are new stampings. I was told by the national chains no one was doing this anymore so once I find out I'll post it for reference along with how the quality looks once mine arrives.

On the other parts, half the brake package showed up today and the other half show up 5/13 so no installation progress yet.

The left rear quarter skin showed up today! It looked like the UPS guy might have been a bit rough with it, but my body guy was going to check it out an make sure it will work.

Also, more of the rear brake parts showed up. Only waiting on the axle lines and time to get to work.

A couple of new pictures with the quarter skin clamped on the car preparing to be welded, along with some additional clean up of the front left fender.

Looking good so far Dakota. Are you planning on taking any of your cars to the show in June? I don't think mine is going to be ready. I am planning on doing alot of work to it so I don't know when it will be ready. Hopefully I'll have done what I want to do by August when Riverboat Days goes on here. Keep it up.

Thanks TMAN. Sorry it took so long to post, it's been kinda hectic. I stopped down to the shop today, the quarter skin is welded on and the body filler applied around the seams. The only metal left to touch is the passenger floor pan. Since we had it all apart, and while the floor was ok but showing it's age, I opted to replace it now.

As far as cars going to the show, I think we are going to enter the '96 mystic as it seems to get a lot of attention up here (most folks don't believe it's factory paint).

I had the '05 in last year, and the '86 the year before. I had hoped to have this one done but I'll be lucky to make Labor day the way this is going!
