I picked up a really solid 81 capri that sat in a garage for about the last 20 years or so for 100 bucks. It has a 3.3 6 banger and a 4 speed. I also picked up a 302 out of a 81 cougar with only 60k on it. I want to swap the 302 into the capri as well as a t5 and an 8.8 rear. My question is...How big of a project have I set myself up for? Is it gonna be a pain or should alot of stuff just bolt up? Any advise would be greatly appriciated.

I'm no major expert, but I know that while alot of stuff will bolt up, it's still a major project. lol Someone with more expertise can tell you exacts on what will and will not work but for the most part, it should fall right in. From what i've heard Ford designed the fox platform to be very interchangable to save money or somethin. This is why it's so easy to do AOD to T-5 swaps and so on. I've heard swapin a 302 into these cars is pretty easy. And the hardest part of tranny swaps from what i've heard is installing a clutch pedal but since you're comin from a 4-spd, you'll be okay. All in all if you know what ur doin under there, you should be okay. lol GOOD LUCK!!!

only if the 3.3l is a straight 6, the V6 uses the same K member...i dont mean to disagree with you, i had to say something because i dont know which the 3.3 is...

What about motor mounts? Will 302 mounts bolt in or will some modification need to be done? Thanks for all the info by the way

3.3 (early '79-'82) = I6
V6 = 2.8 (early '79) or 3.8 ('83-'86)

I read somewhere that you can use 1980's style F-150 mounts and you need to trim the tab off the drivers side of the k member to clear the oil filter,or do what I did and get a k member from an 87 or up with better brakes.

This is correct. A guy that goes by the name Stymeesmont had a web page detailing all what needs to be done to install a 302 Ford in a Fox chassis that had the 200 I6 engine. Unfortunately, I noticed the site has become "unavailable".
By the way, if your 4 speed is a non-overdrive transmission and the bell housing has a part number that starts with E1 DO NOT TRASH THE BELLHOUSING, CLUTCH FORK, AND BLOCK PLATE! Those parts are gold to the Ford Six folks. The T-4 has the same bolt pattern as the T-5 and allows one to bolt a T-5 to their I6 without an adapter. The flywheel is getting hard to find also so save it if it's in good condition. I think Ford six web site is

Dean T, go to archive.org and enter the URL there. Hopefully, there will be archived versions of the page.
