I have an 85 G with the 7.5 rearend. I am going to upgrade to 5 lug all around. Does it matter to keep the same rearend or does one need to go to the 8.8 rear? If so, would it be better to buy new or used and have it rebuilt? will it change the track width? Paul

Go with the 8.8 - it is stronger.

As for new or rebuilt, what can you afford?

If you use a rearend/axle housing from another mustang it doesn't change the track.
