i recently put in new front shocks on my 86 capri. well i took it down the road and at 10 mph the car was shakin bad. now i went to tightin up the shock towers but the whole shock rod turns with nut. i see there a spot to put a regular screw driver on top of the stud to hold it but chit that dont work. need help any idea's. i know this is the problem because i noticed the nuts not down as far as the old shocks were

Noramally you need an impact gun. See if a shop locally will tighten them down for you.

+1 I used my impact, it would be a little tough to do it all by hand.

Yep, impact it. I also indexed mine with a paint pen to assure it doesn't try to back off.

a loose upper nut shouldn't cause that bad of a shake, may sound stupid but did you recheck your wheels make sure one isn't cocked or loose?

Did you make sure to put all the same pieces back in that came off the old strut? If you didnt reinstall one of the bushings or something, it could easily move around on you. And I also do them with an impact with the car back on the ground so the weight helps keep the strut rod from spinning. It can be done by hand but you either need the special tool to fit that slot or a big ass screwdriver and put it in the slot sideways but it will want to slip out.
