Just bought an '80 Cobra

Just bought a 1980 Cobra. Black on black with Bright green graphics. Its original except for the wheels. The 2nd owner bought the car in 1981. Its been sitting for around 10 yrs but has a great body on it. Im curious about how many were produced like this in 1980. Its a v8 car with an auto. Also, which auto was in this car in 1980?

Production numbers are unknown at this time. Marti Auto is currently working on the '80 model year. When they get done they should be able to tell you something.

The only V8 available in '80 (and '81) was the 4.2L/255 and it came only with a C5 automatic, which is basically a C4 but with a lock-up torque converter.

We need pic's! I love the Black/Green Cobras and would love to own one of those or a Black/Blue Cobra. The front bumper covers are the same as the ones on the '79 Pace Cars, '81 Cobras and the '82 GT's. At this time, they're not reproduced so you'll have to find one in the classifieds or on E-Bay. There is a member here (JohnnyGMachine) who is in the process of having them recreated and when he's done, they'll be up for sale through him. Well, as much as I would want it, I'm about 2 years too early. My 13 year old daughter is going to need a car in 2 years and I already have plans to purchase an early Cobra for her. I almost bought one two weeks ago but decided that it's too early.

Just thought I would drop in a couple of pictures of my 79. I ordered this car (Silver) in Oct. of 78, but it wasn't delivered to me until Feb of 79. I'm not sure why it took so long (they said the car was lost on a railroad siding in Chicago) but believe me, I was ready for it to get here. The sticker (which I have) shows a base price of 4500 but by the time I got finished adding what I wanted, it cost a little over 7500. Silver is still all original (except for a few mechanical replacements), and everything still works including the clock and the 8 track tape. I've still got the wheels, but no tires for them. I take Silver to most of the shows in my part of Alabama and even made it down to the MCA show in Pensacola FL a few weeks ago. I'll try to cut down the size of the pictures so they will fit on here.

AWESOME looking Cobra! I love the license plate and wish that Massachusetts would allow us to have a 7 digit plate (we can only have 6 digits). If they did, I'd scoop up the same name for mine.

Have you ordered a Marti Report for your car? Being that you're the original owner, you have all of the information that you need already but they're still cool to have. Oh, were your window louvers on the hatch installed at the factory, dealer, or did you install them yourself?

The louvers were installed at the factory. Unfortunately, I added my own modification when I left the garage one day before the door was completely open. Someday I will find someone who can remove two slats and flatten them out.

Hey, let me be the first to invite everyone to the 45th Anniversary of the Mustang here in Birmingham. My mustang club, Magic City Mustangs, is going to be the host club for the show. I imagine that means we will just be the labor since Ford and MCA are doing the show. I've heard numbers like 5000 mustangs expected for the show, so I am sure there will be something for everyone. Silver will be there.

How many miles?
Did the 5.0 emblem come with it?
Why is there no Ford emblem on the front grille?
Has the car been repainted?
If not, why are the sail panels black?

I plan to be at the 45th anniversary show next year. It would be cool if we had our own four eyed group, specifically us early four eye folks. I was at the 40th anniversary show in Nashville. My car was in a 79-81 group, and the judge said there were supposed to be five cars in the group but he could only find three. If memory serves they were all coupes, I do not remember seeing a Cobra.

I also was at the MCA 30th anniversary show in Birmingham in 2006, I can vouch for it being a first-class facility. Everyone, start making your plans.

Well after looking over the Cobra I have decieded to restore it back to original. I will do a 4V conversion on another 4 eye. Maybe another early Cobra or a pace car.
