I know that with my 96 spindles, there should be little or no modifications needed to install them, and I've already got the proper adapter on the pass side to fit, but my question is, will they be too much for my 85 TownCar MC?

Im runnin the TownCar MC because my stock MC could not handle the SN95 calipers for some reason... I even got a new one to try later on, just for testing purposes.

I bought them from the local JY, as a swap for another guys Cobra brakes (he wanted to be able to run 15" wheels on his cobra), but it looks like hes backin out on me. I'll either sell these, or put em on, I just wanted to see if there was anything else I should be concerned about before I started the install...

Thanks!

I think your MC is gonna be just adequate, I did this conversion for my friends car a few months back with, I believe, the same MC. The only thing about the calipers is that you're gonna have to clearance the spindle a little bit, then you're good to go.

The MC you have (Town Car) will be fine.

If I am not mistaken this clearancing only needs to be done on 94-95 spindles. 96-98 spindles dont need to be clearanced.

The JY pbr calipers I bought bound up on me (I guess sitting in the yard= bad for phenolic pistons). I wound up getting remans. I don't think you'll have to clearance the 96-98 spindles.

I'm using the Town Car MC without major issues as well. What's funny is I never did any clearancing of the 94-95 spindles when I did the 5 lug swap (Mach 1 calipers -- grey paint/no lettering). Weird. I'll double check my old setup for the heck of it and report back.

You say you're using the '96-04 spindles? Everything I've read and heard says that the 94-95 are best suited for stock geometry k-members. The 96-04 introduce bump steer problems that are uncorrectable when used on a stock k-member Fox. The 96-04 are better suited for k-members that change the location of the control arm pickup points (a la Griggs Racing and Maximum Motorsports).

ps: if you don't believe me, check out MFE's thread on the corral regarding his car's front suspension upgrade. He uses 96-04 spindles in tandem with his k-member swap.

As promised. Mach 1 caliper on a 94-95 spindle. I don't see a clearance problem, do you? :D

LOL Moving Target the clearance problem is with 11" brakes and V6/GT calipers, not 13" brakes and Cobra/Mach 1 calipers.

Aah. Gotcha.

*edit*
Why would anyone want to run those wimpy style brakes anyway?

Cause the wheels you wish to run...won't fit with 13 inch brakes ;)

Or you're cheap like me...and want better braking but don't want GREAT braking...so you go with 11 inch rotors.

Cheap? What's this "cheap" you speak of?

My error, I saw PBR and thought Cobra brake. As far as I know, all the OEM 17" will work with the PBR calipers with Cobra brackets.

Or you want the sleeper look and huge-o-humongus 13" brakes on a Fairmont with 17" alloy rims is a dead give-away that this Fairmont "ain't yo' Grandma's Fairmont". I'm thinking of sticking with the Sn95 stock disc brakes and 15" steels and crappy cheap plastic wheel covers. I think I can get them even cheaper by picking them up off the side of the freeways in Los Angeles.

Nothing say slow like cheap, crappy plastic wheel covers with a few scrapes on them.
