Hey guys, Well i just picked up my '86 last week or so and i'm just picking over problems. The last owner changed it over to carb before he pulled the engine and sold it to me. So here i'm left with no efi harnesses. I'm just trying to see what harnesses i'm missing so i can replace them and get it back to EFI.

The Plan
I'm going to be running a 347 Stroker ysi in it. So i need a mass air efi setup. I'll be needing a stock style computer as it will be tuned with AFM's PMS. Just so were all on the same page!

From the pictures below i can see i'm missing the injector harness, and the main harness/Computer that runs along the firewall and into the passenger side kick panel.

The Drivers side seems to have the wiring still there... that is all the dash wiring correct? I have all the headlight harnesses there as well. BUT i have one plug in(Pictured below in my hand) That seems to be for the headlights(I think) that has nothing to plug into....

So is the wiring split up? Drivers side is all the dash/headlights/accessories and the Passenger side has the computer, main harness, injector harness etc..?

Anyways what am i missing!? Thanks guys.

Drivers side front, appears to go to headlights but has nothing to plug into....

harnesses are split up. You have the headlight harness, and the plug in your hand is for the alternator. You are missing the main engine, injector and o2 sensor wiring harness.

Hey thanks man!

So if i'm going to convert to mass air and run a AFM PMS what year mustang main harness/Computer would i want to buy? 1986? And then buy the Mass air conversion kit? Or....

And are the injector and o2 harnesses the same throughout 86-93? THanks!

you gonna be running stick or auto
computers = A9P for auto A9L for stick

86 o2 harness has the big plugs, and the 87-93 have the small plug, depending on the harness you get you will have to buy the coresponding o2 sensors. An 86 engine harness will plug right in, and will just require a mass air conversion, any other 89-93 mass air harness will require you to splice wires to get everything to work.

The auto computer will work with the stick setup though. I used to run an A9P comp on my 88 vert with a 93 cobra motor and T5.

yep...so long as he is manual.. he can run ANY mass air computer.

I'd run the 86 efi harness and do a mass air conversion on that. Tons easier than splicing in a later harness.

also, looks like he capped off the hole in the firewall with a plate..so you'll have to remove that to get your harness through.

Hey thank for the help guys. Yes my car is a 5 speed. I was looking at FRPP Mass air conversion kits. They say one is for an automatic and the other is a 5 speed. I can use either as long as my car is a 5 speed?

You may have a hard time finding an 86 harness. On your car it will be plug and play, but make sure if you do find one you get the 02 harness with it. That is very crucial. I just installed an 86 harness into my 84 stang to convert it to fuel injection and then converted it to mass air using an A9T computer. There are a few things you need to check on your car still. Make sure the fuel pump relay is still under the driver seat. And that the wiring runs all the way to the fuel tank through the engine compartment. Also make sure you still have the EFI fuel tank. When you check for the wiring, I mentioned it runs into the hatch and through a grommet towards the rear on the passenger side in your hatch. There should be 4 wires going through it not only 2. If there is only 2 then the previous owner changed your wiring. Also there should be a fuel cut off switch located under the plastic panels in the hatch that the wiring runs to also. One wire runs from the fuel pump relay to this fuel inertia cut off switch then to the fuel pump and is one of the 4 wires going through it I mentioned.

You will also need to find an 86 fuel injector harness as the colors for those wires are specific to that year.

Your awesome man thanks! Yeah i've found a few '86 parts car i may just buy the complete harness out of it. Like everything.
