Hello - well I have my 80 cobra - and I think that it may be too far gone mechanically to return to stock, but I would like to get the interior and exterior as close to stock as I can - I was looking around and I saw that the 80-81's came with a interior and exterior black out option and a rear facing hood scoop - I was wondering if any one had some pictures of these - it has a 86 front bumper cover - but I haven't been able to find a stock bumper cover and front air dam or hood to save my life! Help!

According to the Ford Mustang Brochures, the interior "blackout" treatment consisted of:
Black engine-turned design appliques on instrument panel
and the exterior "blackout" treatment consisted of:
Dual black remote control mirrors
Black lower Tu-Tone paint treatment
Black window frames, rear window ('81), windshield and drip rail moldings ('81), door handles, and locks
Full wrap-around black bodyside molding and bumpers with dual color-coordinated accent stripe inserts

Here's another question Foxchassis. I've seen some 79's with a black front grill like mine and some in pictures with a body color grill. I thought the Cobras came with a blacked out grill.

As Mike (negusm) says if they are "by the book", they should have had a blacked-out grille. According to the 1979 Ford Mustang Product Facts Book, the Cobra Option included "Black paint and tape treatment on grille, lower bodyside and below front and rear bumpers".

My door tag lists the exterior color as 1C then it is followed by another 1C - is that black on black?

The first "1C" is Black exterior paint.
The second "1C" is Lower Tu-Tone Paint Treatment (which was available in Black only).

I was curious because one of the first pictures you see on earlycobra.com was an orange colored one that had body color grill and the cobra emblem at the back of the door.

I know we have discussed this before but I had a 79 Cobra color code 85 on Top 1C on Bottom - still have the door and door tag. It had Orange Mirrors!

As far as I know, all '79 Cobras came with Black painted grills. Ford released a slew of "Promotional" pictures and all of them didn't have a Blacked out grill. I think that's what's confusing to everyone.
Here's the pictures in question.
I've even seen it referred to as being a 1980.

The one below is the same as the one David just posted. I had the same pic as him but I don't know where it went.
