I know its a bad picture but on the bottom it says 17,579 cobras, mine was 1 of 245 with this paint/trim code, and 1 of 21,984 with this engine (turbo 4) and transmission. Also, what is in the visibility light group and interior accent group as far as options?

Awesome! I find it interesting that the report said the car was ordered 9/78 but not built until 4/30/79. And I wonder why your report listed 17,579 Cobra's built but a report that 79mustangcobra posted in a previous thread for his said 16,641 were built. Makes you wonder how accurate the info really is.

I didn't see that about the production numbers until you pointed that out. Interesting.

as far as your options... the light group included: a pivotal map light, ashtray and glove box lights, engine and luggage compartment lights, ( 3 door is a courtesy light switch).
The interior accent group is: passenger side visor vanity mirror, inertia seat back release, color-keyed deluxe belts with tension eliminator, deluxe sound package ( added sound proofing padding) and carpeted luggage compartment.
hope this helps, as it was from the 79 Mustang factory brochure.

That's weird then Neil because I just have a regular light in the front. I don't have the pivoting map light. Not unless it was replaced with a regular one by a previous owner.

Yeah, I'd really like to know why there is a discrepancy in how many Cobra's were built. Will we ever actually know? Has anyone else with a Cobra ordered one of these?

I have the pivoting map light up front, and I ordered the light group with my RS. I also looked at my orginal Capri brochure, and it was more defined about options that could be ordered. Mabe Ford mixed up some things on your car because it was 30+ days behind schedule on the build date ??

I've ordered mine and it'll be here shortly. I'll post it up when I get it. I have a lot of options on mine so we'll see what's listed. That is very interesting about the discrepency on the actual amount that were built.

Very possible. All I know is that mine is the regular fixed in the headliner style. And for sure one previous owner wasn't very mechanically inclined at all so it was a mess when I did get it.

Did yours get ordered with the light group option also Pete? The only part that I questioned on mine was the showing of how many turbo 4s there were produced. I was hoping it would've said how many turbo 4s were put into the cobras. Oh well.

Well, I did get a lot of lights, but some of them didn't get put in like Neil suggests. I have the regular light in the roof and not the pivoting map light. However, I also have the sunroof and I was under the impression that the sunroof cars didn't get the fold down maplight. I don't know? I do have the lights in the glovebox, the ashtray and under the hood but not the one in the cargo area.
I also have the interior accent group as I have the passenger side visor vanity mirror, inertia seat back release, color-keyed deluxe belts with tension eliminator (I think all of them came with the seat back release and the color keyed seatbelts), and carpeted luggage compartment. I'm not sure about the the deluxe sound package as mine had the AM/FM Stereo and 4 speakers. I'm not sure if that constitutes "deluxe" or not. I do have the sound deadener.
Mine also came with:
Power Door Locks
Intermittant Wipers
Air Conditioning
Cruise Control
Tilt Wheel
Rear Window Louvers
Rear Window Defrost
4-Way Driver's Seat
Sunroof
Hood Graphics
We'll see what happens when it comes in.

Mine has the sunroof too and the glove box light. I dont think it had the ashtray light but I've never checked it. I'm pretty sure I have the trunk light but don't recall seeing the hood light and think mine did have the sound deadener. Mine also has the same options as yours except for the 4-way seat and hood graphics. Now I'm really curious about what yours will say and might have to brave the cold too see if I do have those other lights.

The deluxe sound package was thicker sound padding over stock, less road noise. Not more speakers....
and how much is the marti report?

I ordered both the Interior Accent Group and the Light Group. My map light is the pivoting kind. The description of the content of each seems to match my car....
Although now that I think about it, I wonder about the "carpeted luggage compartment." My car came with an extra thick pad in the trunk, but it was covered with a felt-like material, not carpet. I wonder if that was what was meant, or whether this was a running change? My car was built in March 1979. Someone with a coupe without the Interior Accent Group might be able to weigh in on this piece of trivia.

I'm curious about the lighted cargo area. Where would the light have been installed? Does anyone have a picture? I've always thought to myself, "Why isn't this area lighted?" I've thought about adding a light but didn't want to hack up the back and make it look "non-original" If I could find the exact spot for installation, I could source a factory light and install it there.

tman1257, it makes sense that a hatchback would have carpet in the hatch area. My curiosity has now been raised relative to coupe trunk areas.
WHTLTHR79RS

Pete, the hatchback did not have a light for the area behind the seat, the center dome light served the purpose. I believe the lighted cargo area refers to a coupe...trunk light.

O.K. Thanks for the info. I won't bother adding one then. Ya know what's cool? Ford is still using the same lights that I have in the roof of my Cobra. My 2004 Ford Freestar has many of the same light mounted in various places. The only difference? There's no plastic chrome band around the outer edges.

tman, how long did it take to get your report?
My elderly parents sent me some money for xmas, but want me to report back what I bought with it. If I spend it on a Marti Report, first of all I will have to explain to them what that is, at which time they will say "so you bought a piece of paper with some numbers on it about your car." They will give me a funny look then that will be the end of it. Car nuts, they are not.

It took about 1.5 wks give or take a few days. Well I do have the rear hatch light, couldn't tell about the ashtray, and no underhood light, but I think it had a light under the hood at one time. I putting some pictures up now. The first one is under the hatch and the second is of the underhood. I took some of my ashtray area but my camera has been having issues lately.:grumble: It was also a cold run to the garage so I didn't look at the glovebox. Hope the hatch pictures help Pete. Oh nevermind the date, one of the other issues I'm trying to figure out with my camera.

I was going to do the full blown Marti Report, but now I am getting bad vibes. How could two reports have different Cobra production numbers? I don't like getting suckered.
Hissing Cobra
12-24-2007, 11:51 PM
Those lights in the hatch are actually used to light up the license plates and are not considered to be cargo lights, though they do work for that purpose if you have the lights on. The plastic piece and screw on the hood are definitely parts for an underhood light. I have both of those on mine.
I'm also not too happy that there's different production numbers floating around. Is it the 16,641 or the 17,579? Maybe FoxChassis can shed some light on this?
We'll see what's up with mine. I too, wanted to buy the "Elite" report but it's hard to part with $220.00 right now, that's why I went with the "Deluxe" report instead.

My Cobra didn't come with the hood insulator. However, my hoodscoop did. I still have it and it's in excellent condition. I just didn't reinstall it when I put the car back together. Does anyone else have that and did my hood originally come with the insulator pad?

I have the scoop insulator pad installed and yes, your car originally had a hood insulator as well. Mine is gone, but the retainers, um, remain. They are dangling wishfully in hopes of one day holding a hood insulator again. I will try to find a pic.

Hood insulators seemed like a good idea at the time. All cars had them. Now lots of new cars don't. Were they to keep the heat of the engine from the hood, the sound of the engine from our ears, or the heat of the day away from the engine?

They were sound insulators, nothing more.

After looking again at my report it shows a "PB" for the interior code on the tag but when I was looking at the literature the negusm put up I dont see that code as being listed. Am I looking at this wrong or is this another discrepancy? Oh yeah, Neil, thats the exact spot where I found a clip for my hood light. Now just to see where the wiring went too.

On mine, the wire went directly to the solenoid under the hood. There's no fuse or anything. The light socket must have mercury or something inside it because the light only comes on when the hood is opened and goes out when it's just about closed. Maybe the copper piece on the firewall grounds out the hood when they make contact?
I usually keep the bulb in my center console so it's not on during the car shows.

Ok I have been busy and I am just reading this about the Marti discrepancy on Cobra's. That is disturbing. I know people like Bob Perkins swears by this guy. I need to contact them and ask why - or has someone else done that?
Mike and I both have a NOS hood insulator pad for 79 - 82 Mustangs and this is correct for all years of Fox body Capris.
I have heard of the hood scoop pad but thought it was only for Turbo 4 cars because the V8 cars did not have a hole in the hood under the scoop as the Turbo 4 cars did.
I would be happy to measure the hood insulator if that helps.

The discrepancy on the Cobra production numbers has been cleared up.
The hole under thr hood scoop was not just with the 2.3T engine. It was also found with some 4.2L and 5.0L engines, through mid '83.

Well I got a response back from Kevin on the turbo 4 combo question. I have to fill out a seperate form and pay to do the research it. $80 an hour and he estimated this would take a half hour to research.

Actually this is not true. They changed the Capri underhood pad to something else from 82-84 or thereabouts before using the 79-82 Mustang pad for 85-86. I looked it up in the Ford part listings.
