:mad:I just bought a set of Elelbrock "sure seat" valve springs for my GT40P heads. I actually had to buy a set of 16 part#5822 (non rotator) springs and 16 part #5922 (rotator) springs in order to get 8 non rotator springs for my intakes and 8 rotator springs for my exhaust valves. What a bummer that Edelbrock doesn't make a combined set. My loss will be someone's gain. If you need a set for your GT40P heads these are new, 8 rotator springs and 8 non rotator springs. Rotator springs 1.60" installed height. non rotator springs 1.70" installed height. Both have 90lbs. seat pressure. These are for Performer series camshafts. I will take $40 for the set. Buyer pays actual shipping costs. I'm located in Circleville, Oh 43113.

take any trades? i think i made a mistake when i built my heads, using generic springs good to 550" lift, i put the stock rotators on half the springs..and all springs were identical

Let me know what you've got you want to trade. Dick

I'd take them if they were both .520" lift

These are junk! They are no different than my stock GT40P springs. They even have the same color code markings as the stock springs. They do not meet installed height specs. Thay test at the same pressures as the stock springs, 240lbs.@ full open! I'm returning them to Summit today so consider them as GONE! Sorry for any inconvenience. Dick

bummer, hope you get the right ones..i always wondered why we need to use the rotators

Just talked with Crane Cams tech. line. They say to get rid of the rotators and use the non rotator springs. Edelbrock says just the opposite. Is someone nuts or am I the only one? My bet is Edelbrock!

i run crane cams springs with the rotators on the EX valves only..wonder if i'm causing myself problems?(maybe that bad valvetrain knocking sound after it warms up?)

Make sure you have the correct springs on those rotators. The exh. springs are about .100" shorter than the intakes because the rotators are that much thicker than the conventional retainers. Exh. installed height is 1.600". Int. installed ht is 1.700" for the same seat pressure. Hope that helps. Dick

If I were you I would buy all new springs, retainers and locks since you most likely have bound the exhaust springs if you used non rotator springs on rotators. If you bound the spring you probably took it past the yield point and seriously weakened it. Not good news for the cam and lifters. You might want to pull the intake and pop the lifters out and inspect them along with the cam lobes. Also inspect your pushrods by rolling them on a flat surface,(glass or granite surface block). Inspect the rockers carefully. Doing a job the second time is no fun. Been there and don't want to go back! I will post the Comp Cams part nos. for springs retainers and locks if they work. So far I've checked their website and all the specs look good for a fit with the gt40p heads. Their open spring pressure should be around 280lbs. @.500" lift. This will get me to 5500-6000rpm safely. Will know more tomorrow when I get to Jegs.

i'll turn it over to max lift and check spring cleanrace, it should at least .008" at full open, right? my cam is pretty small at .484 intake and .498 exhaust, so hopefully i didnt F up anything, my pushrods were straight last time i checked, i also replaced the lifters because 6 of them stuck on me...a few hundred miles after the engine was built it developed a knocking sound at light cruise and slack throttle, but only at certain RPM's, say 1,300-1,500 only..it definately sounds like a valvetrain noise, replacing the lifters and re-adjusting the 1.6 stud mount RR's several times hasnt helped either, i will remove the rotators, look for broken springs and check for coil bind tomorrow, i used a compression tester(removed the guage) and screwed in an air hose fitting so i can hold pressure in the cylinder and remove the valve springs with this flat bar looking tool i have, BTW this for sale Ad sure turned into a tech thread, lol

Wrong parts at Jegs. Inside diameter of spring too small. Had to order a different spring to clear the valve guide boss. Should be in on monday. Wasted the whole morning on the road.

thats crap, hope you get it sorted out...BTW i switched my exhaust valve rotators with the standard retainers and it made little or no difference with my knocking problem, it seems to be better but not fully fixed..if i could i'd tear it down for a new cam, valve springs and retainers. LMK what part numbers you end up with

Think I have all the parts. just running some installed height and full open height numbers to make sure I can get the exh. and intakes set at an acceptable ht. to produce the spring pressures I want (90-105lb. installed & 260-275@ .472 lift) . It is a big juggling act since I'm getting rid of the exh. valve rotators, keeping the same valves, and doing this with the heads on the engine. The major cam mfg. companies don't make a shim which is 1.010" ID for the "P" head. You have to use steel machine shim washers or machine your valve guide bosses. I will post my results.

Parts I used Crane 99833-16 springs 1.700 installed ht. Intake shim .110" Exhaust shim .030". 95Lbs seat pressure. 265-270Lbs open pressure. Comp. Cams 768-16 retainers. Comp. Cams locks. Set up should be good for around 5500Rpm. :D

i took my stock setup with the crane cams generic springs to 6K one time, i usually shift around 5K when trying hard though it will pull to 6K, but i'm not sure how far past that. It sounds like you've really been doing your homework, i hope everything works well and it revvs to the moon!
