I have had the cobra since July and I was just wanting to know a little more about the car. I did a carfax on it but as you know a car this old everything is not there on carfax. Could someone help with the buck tag. This what I could read off of it.
Mustang
209651 61R D 082
3HH TT DF ST
RW AC 06 HB S
CBR WD 07 V
Electric-B
Then there were some letters in the lower right hand corner in capital letters as follows.
S H P
And I believe there are two letters or numbers that were faint and I could not read along with the three odd letters.

Little more info about the car first please...
Does it have:
pivoting map light, and light under the hood, in the glove box, in the ash tray, and a light and switch in the hatchback trim?
AM radio, AM/FM stereo w/ two front speakers (only) OR with four speakers, AM/FM stereo w/ cassette, 8-track tape player, or CB radio?
Premium Sound system?
tinted windshield?
tinted glass?
Recaro seating?
tilt steering wheel?
interval/delay front windshield wipers?

It has pivoting map light, glove box light, ash tray light, and hood light, but I did not notice the light switch. I will look.
There is no radio in it, four speakers.
unknown on glass.
no recaro's
yes on tilt steering.
yes on inter
interval/delay wipers
Here is what options I know it has besides the ones listed.
power steering
air
power windows
power locks
blue vinyl interior
255 with 4 speed (I am only guessing on the tranny because it has a clutch pedal and when I bought it there was a c4 in it)
I do not have a door tag or buildsheet on this car so the buck tag is all I have to go off of.

Does it have the 4-way driver's seat?

In what way would a 4-way driver's seat adjust?

In addition to front/back movement, it also moves up and down. I believe it's called a 4-way seat. I've got it in my Cobra but I keep it in the down position because my hair already rubs the ceiling.

Heh....I had never heard of that so I went back and looked at the 1979 Ford Product Facts Book (thanks to negusm's www. ascmclarencoupe.com Website) and there it is:
Seat, Four-Way Manual Driver's - Available on 2- and 3-door sedans and Ghia models. Also available with Interior Accent Group.
It's also in the '80 Product Facts Book but not '81.

So, it's only a two year option? I haven't seen another one like it but I do remember Skye posting a picture of a frame of one, back when I first joined this site. She was asking everyone if they knew what it was (she knew). I got it right but like I said, I haven't seen another one.

no 4 way seat. Did all cobra come with the complete deacal set (side stripes, quarter windows, hood, spoiler) if not how do you tell if your car came with or without? Also I thought the car only had 4 speakers but it has where there were 6 speakers. 2 in the dash, 2 in the quarter by the armrest, 2 in the back hatch area. Where would the light switch if it has one be for the back hatch, is it just when the hatch is open or like the aero style where there is an actual switch. Also on the cruise where is the set, accel, coast buttons located? My steering wheel has been switched.

Not all cobras came with the decals. The Hood Snake was optional, and you could get a credit if you decided not to order the side stripes for the car. I've got some information on that on www.earlycobra.com. By the way, I'd love for you to send pictures and register your car if you're interested!

I will have to get the hood back on the car and take some pictures for you. It may take me awhile to get around to them and registering. Also what is the thing on the speedometer cable is that the speed sensor for the cruise? It has threads on it and no way to hook it up to the tranny I must be missing a piece.

I bought a neat item from Ebay a few years ago and it has every article and Ad for a 79 Mustang Cobra. It is a lot of info.

WOW, that is a find! If you ever feel like sending some scans in, let me know. I'm in the process of collecting '80 articles to scan and put up on the site for reference, but collecting piece by piece is not cheap.

I'm 5'10 and with my seat all the way back I feel like I am eating the steering wheel. If your head is rubbing the ceiling you're taller than me. That means that your knees must be in your ears!

I'm 6'4". I've got my seat all the way back and my knees are up pretty high. My head touches the roof but just barley. Its worth it to drive a Mustang though :)
