Just as the title says.

Willing to travel 250 miles from IL in either direction for the right car.

I dont care about the engine or tranny or rear ends. Blown, weak or gone is fine. I just want a straight body for my build.

Edited: More details on my location per below.

Dont get this rule for a buying or looking though. I could see if I was selling as that would make complete sense but buying??? Anyways, hope this fixes it.

T-Top notch backs are few and far between. I have found two for sale recntly and both were converted to t-tops meaning someone had cut the t-top roof off a hatchback car and welded it onto a notchback. I want an original notch back t-top car. I have never seen one in person, just pictures so they are rare. Good luck with your search.

Yea I know its like looking for a needle in a hay stack but I'm in it for the long haul.

I already thought about doing the conversion myself but a lot of T's have leak issues from the factory, thus ending production of tops and I highly doubt that if ford couldnt get it 100% leak proof me and my skills will be in the same boat if not worse.

I found one in IN. It was a Zebarted red 4cyl with minimal rust from the zebarting done years back but timming was not right when I found it as I had to fly back to FL and do roof repairs on my rental property casuing me to loose out on a sweet deal for a hard to find car. He only wanted 1200.00 too. Engine was shot but I could care less.

I seen one on ebay a few months ago and it was simiular to the one I found in in IN fs. Problem was it was in Cali and had a buy it now of 1800.00. By the time I logged on to expedia for trip rates, confirmed my schedule and talked to the GF I went back all in under 3 minutes and it sold. I found it just listed with a 10 day and it sold in 5 minutes of being listed.

And for whoever said good luck, be it sarcastic or not, your dead on;)

I sold mine 4 years ago and kick myself every day for it, that to date was the best 5.0 I have everowned and I miss it dearly.

I registered on here only to PM the guy that I got mine from. Had it shipped in from Southern California. '83 t-top notch, factory 5.0, 5 speed, brown on brown!!! They are super hard to come by! Best of luck to you.

The car you saw on eBay was probably the brown T-top coupe (I think it's an '83) that V8 Only bought...and quickly sold. I think it's the same car that ReefblueGT (these are all members of this forum, by the way) purchased and had shipped back East.

I found my T-top coupe at a point not far from the California/Mexico and halfway to Arizona border. It was a long trip from LA to go get it, but, I'm really glad I drove that far from Los Angeles to get the 'Stang.

Hopefully you've followed some or all of my T-top coupe's build series in 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords magazine. Every step of the car's "new" life was covered, and maybe some of the information will be helpful for your T-top coupe project when you find the right car.

Keep looking for a "real one." No disrespect intended to those who have fabricated their own T-top notchbacks, but, I think you'll be better off with one of the (few) Cars and Concepts T-top coupes. You've just got to keep after the search if you really want one. They're still out there. Actually, I think it's really cool that so many T-top coupe owners have come to the surface since I started working on my car and the magazine exposure it has gotten. There are quite a few guys that participate on this site who have T-top coupes.

Just keep your eyes peeled on all of the 'Stang forums/Classifieds, and eBay or Craig's list. Do specific searches in Southern California and also in points of the South. You'll find one.

Good luck (and I'm NOT being sarcastic)!

I over paid for mine but i wanted it bad. It was only 40 miles from my house. Its an 84, roller with be alum radiator, roll cage, fuel cell, holley elec fuel pump, sub frame con, i paid 1500 for it, it was a solid car very little rust but it has a areo nose on it. some day i'll convert it to an 85/86 nose.

I have overpaid on all 3 of mine... But people keep saying that they want one so bad, but then are not willing to drive or pay at all. Go figure

I have one that needs fully redone. We are in the process of starting that build. It is an original 81 t top coupe. When I was told about the car I told the guy he was lying. I didn't even know they made them. Anyhow I hooked to the trailer and went and saw it. I couldn't believe my eyes. It does need a lot of work, but with the mags that kj jones did it truely will be sweet. Kj mine is going to be single turbocharged :)

NICE, man!:) I think you're already familiar with turbos, right? I'm tellin' 'ya, I definitely want to put a turbo on a 'Stang now. Maybe not my T-top coupe, but after seeing how easily they can make big power on even a STOCK 302 (390+ to the wheels), I'm definitely gonna mess with a turbo on one of my 'Stangs, one of these days.

Good luck with your T-top coupe. It sounds like my T-top coupe build is somewhat of an inspiration for your project. I'm glad to hear that. I really wanted four-eye and 'Stang fans to enjoy watching the car come together and get ideas for their own cars, etc. While the initial investment to get my T-top coupe as a roller was minimal (I basically "paid" the price for the diesel that I burned for a 400-mile roundtrip to pick it up--that's right, it was a freebie, on the condition that I "do the right thing with it"), I've got quite a bit invested (time and money) to get it to the point where it is now.

The car just made it into 5.0 as a feature (Jan '08 issue). I'm pretty stoked about that. The article sort of marks the end of a long road, but I'm still messin' with the thing, so I guess it really won't ever be "over" until it isn't mine anymore!;)

KJ very familiar with turbos. Our base kits on H/C/I cars with stock bottom ends are producing well over 500rwhp. So it will be a fun car for me and the wife to cruise in. KJ you and your goals for yours is an inspiration. I hope mine can be just as nice as yours with some different color paint. I probably won't do the cage though. I do hope to see this car possibly in the mags as well. let me know when you get ready to turbo yours. I might could be of big help :)

took me 12 years to find one....unfortunately it need rust repair and a full restmod. In Canada, I think they are slim to come by.

I know where a 81 T-Top Notch is with the running ponies on each side and the Indy Pace car hood scoop its 2.3 4spd bad part the car has sat outside in the same spot for over 20 years it has sunk into the ground up tp the floor and he wants $1,200 for it and no title it was left at his shop now I dont know if its still there as its been over a year since I moved from that area and that would be Plainwell Michigan I can dig around see if I can find his phone number but to me at this point unless a person has unlimited cash flow to completely rebuild it Id say its best used as a donor I hate to say that about any foureye especially a T-Top Notch the realality is its a Michigan car and it sat for 20 years plus now
