CAT on Buck tag

So my buck tag is mashed in behind the header panel...Here's what I could make out...

What on earth does it all mean???

Think the 'CAT' on the buck tag denotes Black Magic Capri

Well that's sweet. The car has the RS badge on the dash but has the GS front clip and a different hood for some reason. I suspect somebody robbed the hood and clip for another car. Oh well...I think I'll re-paint it to Black Magic style...

Would be nice if you could make sure you got all the codes from the tag, and that what you see is what it is. We don't get to see very many Buck Tags from Mustangs and Capris built at the San Jose Assembly Plant.

"TROOF" spelled out on tags is a San Jose thing. On Dearborn Assembly Plant tags it's just "TR". San Jose did the same thing with "MOON" for moonroof, and Dearborn just did "MO".

BTW...The "Black Magic Option" was not available on the Capri RS. And the "YA" interior trim code on the VC Label is (only) for the Black Magic Option. So the RS dash emblem seems to be out of place.

That's what I was thinking. Who knows...The guy who owns/owned the car is now in jail for beating up his girlfriend. Got put in jail last month and won't be out for two years. Nice...

Yes, that has popped up now and again...too often. I know the books say it was not meant to be but seems like if you got the Black Magic and the 5.0 sometimes you got the RS badges. Same with the Crimson Cat.

The owner said it has a "GS" bumper cover on it? It is supposed to. No Black Magics came with a front air dam. The bumper cover was nearly the same on all Capris from 79-83. The first time a front air dam came on the Capri was 1984.

Mine too, and Negusm, mine is not a 5.0.

Only if the exterior was red and the interior had code was KA.

CAT was used on either BMs or CCs.

The hood, nose, and hatch IIRC were all blue at one time. The hood I believe is appropriate for the car, but is not original to the car. The buck tag definately reads CAT and the door tag definately says YA. I was looking at the production books on the Capri site and it appears the YA interior was available on other models as an option, but I would doubt many got it.

The 82 BMs came with the RS package according to the dealer sales brochure. Hence my 82 5.0 Ttop BM Capri has them as well

Doesn't mean though that Ford did something completely goofy in the end.

Don't know which dealer sales brochure you're looking at but the one I'm looking at doesn't say any such thing. If you're looking at where it says "Rally suspension system" in the list of standard features, that is not the RS model/trim level. The '82 (and '81 and '83) Mercury Product Facts Book specifically states that the Black Magic Option was "na" with the (base) Capri, the Capri L, the Capri GS, or the Capri RS.

It has apparently happened though. Who knows how or why.
