I know I have talked with Pete and other Cobra owners in here and this is based on Hypothesis.

My Cobra was built 8-14-78 which is an Early Build date for a 79.

Early characteristics

Non-Ribbed Door Panel pads

Silver Sport Wheel instead of Black.

I asked the owner for a picture of the door tag and will let you know but I am thinking the Cobra on ebay is an Early Cobra too.

Indiana location but St. Louis area code? Something's odd there.

I wonder what the reserve is? It looks like it could make a mean muscle machine. Good eye on the non-ribbed door panels. They're the same as the Pace Cars except for the emblems. Things that make ya go ummmmm.

Door panels have been pulled and ribbed replaced with inserts possibly from an 80 or 81 Cobra. The dude even possibly bought the entire panels from an 80 or 81 Cobra, got home, went to switch panels and realized the door handles were in the wrong spot. The doors have obviously been apart as indicated by the rubber knobs missing off the sideview mirror adjustments. Hard to get off, even harder to get back on. Steering wheel is from a Mustang II with the 79 centercap.

My Cobra has the same steering wheel. I think they are left overs from the II's. I asked when his was built and he said 10-78. Mine was built 8-78. If yours has a Black sport wheel I bet it was built in 79. Look on your door tag.

So you have rubber knobs on your mirrors? I have seen really low mile cars without these.

So goes my theory. I guess I was right on the steering wheel, sort of. Now the inserts, I really doubt the inserts are original. I could say I have never seen a Fox without the rubber knobs, but I am sure I don't usually pay that close attention.

Mine is just a baby, built March 30, 1979.

I had a '79 Cobra that I bought new summer '79. I can recall pulling the rubber knob off by accident a couple times when I was adjusting the passenger mirror & stretched out to it. The door panels sure look like mine too. But that was a long time ago. My wheel I do recall as being black.

I just pulled off and put back on my rubber knobs when I removed the mirrors just recently. It was really easy.

was the Capri tan from the factory? It just looks like under the door panel is another color.

Thanks

The reason I ask is that even on the body where the door shuts between the weatherstrip it has some yellow or tan??

I've had people wonder where the door handles were. It's even worse at night because they can't see them.

It was even worse for me when I got my 82 and gave my 79 to my son. I reached down for the handle about 2 months before I smartened up lol.

I like it too. My friend in high school had a 240 z and I loved the placement of the door handles (pic below) and leg room. So it was easy for me when I got my Cobra.

I had a couple of girls freak out in my car back in my college days, they couldn't find the door handle. It's what makes the 79's so unique.
