Hey all.

At the urging of many, I am starting this thread to chronical in pictures the "restore" of my '85 KC Dominator car.

Heres a few as the engine is coming out. It goes to the body shop on 1/9/07 for some minor rust and ding clean up followed by a total re-paint. Luckly the floors, trunk and rockers are solid so no major body work. Sub frame connectors will go on while at the body shop.

I expect this project to take the next 5-6 months, will post pictures along the way.

For those who missed my other thread, that silver box on the driver fenderwall is a Ford Motorcraft Performance Ignition module made by MSD. Here's a pic of that:

where are you from? We have one other Dominator on the board and I'd LOVE to start a Dominator registry.

Nice! Good luck with the restore and I look forward to progress pics! Are you keeping the stock color?

I am the other dominator owner.

I was wondering if your car had hooker long tube headers on it?

Looks like an overall solid project. Interior looks to be the roughest part. Gonna go back with the medium canyon red color? Keep posting update pics!!:) :)

I'm from South Dakota, but we picked the car up just west of St. Joseph Missouri.

As far as the hooker headers, yes it had the headers on it. It also had the ignition module from MSD I posted in the pictures above, and it most certainly has a higher duration cam in it.

The dual snorkel air cleaner also had 1" holes drilled around the rim, and an 1" rubber seal to mate to the hood to take the feed from the scoop. The holes in the air cleaner look professional, as they are cleanly cut and very symmetrical all the way around. Not a hack job.

Sorry, didn't answer the color question. I'm thinking of staying with the factory Canyon Red, but I've got a few weeks yet to change my mind. And yes, the interior is really the project on this car but nothing a little spray, a new dash pad, carpet cleaner and a good upholstry shop can't fix;) .

I really do want to set up a registry for these cars.

They came from Summit Ford in Lee Summit Missouri, which is now dead, and when they closed, they trashed all the records of the Dominator cars.

I really do think they could be bought brand new from Summit with ANYTHING you wanted from the SVO/FRPP parts book. The common mods I KNOW on them are hooker long tubes, 140mph speedo, weiand/edelbrock intakes on carb cars, after market cat backs, sub frame connectors, some had strut tower braces, and either 3.27/3.55/3.73 or a 4.10 rear gear.

outside of that, I think you could do upgraded cooling systems, hurst shifters, shift kits in AOD cars, possibly functional hoodscoops....and I THINK aftermarket radios.

All this was still covered by Summit Fords warranty.

Happy to participate in the registry. As far as the functional hoodscoops, this Dominator has a functional hoodscoop so that should put that assumption to rest!

Nice car. I am from Lees Summit where the cars were sold. They used to have a makeshift roadcoarse set up behind the dealership and ran those cars and others back their. As a kid it was awesome seeing those guys driving them like they stole them around that coarse.

I LOVED seeing about 8 of them on the front row.....

I recall them selling them until about 90 or 91. Anyone recall a guy nicknamed Dominator Larry?

I thought I posted a reply to this, must've not gone through..

My (soon to be former) boss was a tech at Summit Ford and built many Dominators. He said they came in at least 3 "stages", the top of the line had a widebody kit (probably Wings West), turbo(s?), suspension, engine mods etc. But yeah, knowing car salesmen, I'm sure you could pretty much have whatever you wanted put on.
Oh, and he said they ran a commercial with one of the top of the line ones.. had a two tone paint job, and was shown from the back doing a burnout launch, and had the catch phrase "You've just been Dominated."

the top of the line had a widebody kit (probably Wings West)

More than likely the kit that Ford Motorsport carried back in the eighties that replaced the front fenders and glued onto the rears.
