Just saw an ad for an '83 mustang vert, but it was the wrong body style. It had the front end of a 79-82. Either it's been modified or it is pre 1983. How common is a 79-82 vert?

Correct. I know a few were made (prototypes). There is one around my area w/ a 351w. Guy said he paid a fortune for the rolling chassis.

79-82 verts were done pretty much outside of Ford by 3rd party companies. Intermechannica, Swift, etc etc are all known names for builders of pre 1983 verts.

You should check it out, if it is one of them, they are very rare. VERY VERY few got a v8 engine as most were 4 or 6 cyl cars to limit the cost.

They were production cars from various 3rd party companies. Not many were made but they definitely were NOT all prototypes.

This was actually advertised as a ford protype (back when it had the original motor it was for sale). Was a VERY clean vert especially if it was done outside of Ford. Looked nothing like the ones done outside of Ford. If I see it I'mm gonna find out the vin. :)

From the looks, it's not a V8. Wire spoke hubcaps and no scoop on hood. Guy is asking $1500. I'll email him and ask for a VIN.

True sleeper;)

Mine is an 84 Lx 5.0.

There is a 1979 or 80 ragtop here which was done aftermarket (looks like ****) with a 6 in it
