Blah. The new motor in the SVO just ate two dizzy gears. Time to pull the oil pan. crap.
I'm a little curious about the different oil pimps for these cars and thinking I may have the wrong one.
Any of you guys remember the parts #s of the pumps that you are supposed to avoid and which one to use?
I should either have it apart tonight or tomorow night to inspect the damage. I didnt see any damage to the shaft just the dizzy gear.

I know Neil Emiro (nemiro) over at TF had a couple lengthy posts/threads on the oil pump subject.....

Out of curiousity & for my possible future need: what is really going with this dist.gear chewing problem with 2.3 based motors? Did Ford use two different types of gear face degree angles?

I hate to say I told you so, but.....;)
The M86E is the high-volume pump that parts stores sell for the 2.3T. It requires too much effort to turn and so shears dizzy gears. The M127 is the one you want. Spec'd for a 2.3 n/a, it has more than enough volume and does not require the extra effort to spin.
My thread from back when I looked into this:
