I do not miss any options that I don't have on my '78 Fairmont but since driving my Mark VII beater.........I do enjoy the intermittant wipers.
Did any '78-'86 fox bodies (non tilt steering column) come with intermittant wipers?...........can I retrofit them to a '78 Fairmont.

Intermittant wipers are not related to tilt option ...
I have intermittant only on the Pace Car.

The '78 Fairmont (The First Fox!) had intermitent wipers as an option - even on the non- tilt columns. Friggin' had it from the factory and the Wagon of Evil I converted it. Fairmonts are real easy: Toss old wiper assembly, install intermitent wiper assembly and black box. Literally plug and play.

Yes, it's an easy upgrade, but on my '79 StaWag, it wasn't quite plug and play. The black box connector
had a ground wire in it that my wagon's harness didn't have a place for. Pulled the ground wire out of the
black box harness plug, and made it into a pigtail using factory connector parts I had lying around.
Looks factory, and I didn't have to do any mods on my original harness.
Great upgrade, very worthwhile, even here in SoCal.

You'll probably need a setup off of a 79 Mustang. The 80 and newer cars had slightly different wiring, and some parts are 79 specific (headlight switch, etc.). Other than minor changes through the years, it is indeed a plug and play addition. I've only seen one 79 Mustang with interval wipers though, and I snagged the parts to move it over to my 79.

Dunno.
The interval black box I used was PN D8BZ-17C476-A, which is listed for '78-'79 Fairmont,
and '79 Mustang. As far as I can tell, Ford just used a slightly different harness plug on
Fairmonts that didn't get the interval wipers. And even if the plug had a place for the
missing ground wire, I'd still have had to add the wire. Neither my old '78 wagon, or my
current '79 wagon had the ground wire, which is not needed with the standard wipers.
So, as they say, your mileage may vary.
