Now that I really am "done" with my 5.0 5speed Anny, its time to focus on the Turbo cars.

You just cant ask for a better situation:

Unbelievably, I scored this 84 Turbo GT off EvilBay for 600

http://i6.ebayimg.com/02/i/08/0d/8b/d4_1.JPG

Which will provide everything to support the resto of our "Holiest of Holies" 84 Anny Turbo T-Top

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c261/rstel/turbo35002024.jpg

And provide the powertrain, wiring and stuff to support the EFI upgrade of project 2: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c261/rstel/IMG_2239.jpg

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Had I known. I past up that car a while back. I have seen it in person. It is rough, so Fox chassis , dont sweat it. Its not a saveable car , but will make an excellent doner.

So your coming to Ohio huh? About a half hour south of me huh? Should my feelings be hurt that you didnt even mention it?

Seriously, when are you getting it? Mabey I will put off the dismantling of my Anny dor you to see (getting tons more cool stuff and paint). Mabey even take you for a ride in the Grey Turbo Gt so you know what to shoot for.

That looks like a pretty good car from the one pic. It looks identical to the turbo car I am building. Same color 84 T-tops GT Turbo. Too bad Im so far away, I would salvage some parts you didnt need.

Thanks, then I wish I had posted sooner!

We are going to be in and out tommorow morning. Leaving Gettysburg around 4am and hopefully back out of Ohio by 10:30 with the car on the trailer.

I wish I could spend some extra time in Ohio but, its a super tight weekend and we are trying to fit Corvettes at Carlisle in as well!

14 hours 600 mile round trip and its home!

It may just be too nice to part out though!

No brakes (sans E) so I really could not get on it but, she pulled up on boost right away and pulled hard in first!!!!!!!!

Its been off the road for about 10 years, so over the week I will make a good assesement in see what is what.

Either way, 6 bills was a steal for the car

Nice score. You have an awesome collection. As far as I'm concerned, you own them, and if using one of your own cars parts on 2 others, more power to you. Just how rough is the Turbo GT? If it's even remotely saveable, I do vote for that, especially if you can sell the roller to a FEP member to keep it "in the family". Even just a bare stripped shell with a true Turbo GT title is desirable.

On a side note, speaking of scores, my brother got a new, high paying job and gave me his GT-350 hatchback 2.3T today. Needs everything, but will be restored to stock interior/exterior, with all the good 2.3t tricks. And, I have a (ironically enough) 84 Turbo GT roller shell waiting for me in my friend's backyard.. I'm catching the FEP syndrome - too many projects.. :)

Here you go Greg!

It is exactly what I expected. The rust is contained to the "bolt on" sheet metal and some on the body. The Body was Ziebarted which explains the lack of rust in the shell.

It will be the perfect donor for both the Pace and other 84 Turbo. If anyone needs an immacuilate grey 84 interior shoot me a PM. I wont ship them but we can work something out.

At some point in time, I think I need to accept the fact I have issues and just overly love these cars:

That does not count the Aero, the 03 Mach1 and Capri that live here!

My suggestion is to leave the GT Tubo intact and find another worse off car for your parts car. Finding a GT Turbo's in original condition is not getting any easier. That car still has it's original uncut dash even. Just a thought.

Yeah that car is a little to nice to be a parts car.

Destroy a equally desirable car to save a nother one? Thats like killing a boss 302 to save a boss 429. Goofy.

It is what it is then!

I have 5 4-eyes, I think I have done more than my fair share to preserve them.

Unless it has GT-350, SVO, Saleen, Indy 500 or Predator its fair game. This car will provide parts to a Pace and Anny bringing them back to life.

In truth my Turbo anny is way worse off (rust) than this car but, the Anny is rarer and the majority of this shell will go to it.

And this car is heavily rusted as well just not on the parts I need.

Evil86lx
08-28-2006, 06:46 PM
Wierd. Turbo GTs are more rare than SVOs and pacecars.

Doesnt make any sense when you can use a early Tbird/Cougar wire harness and regular old GT body panels to fix either car.

Hell I will trade you a SVO wire harness, fuel tank, intake manifold, E6 exhaust manifold, Tbody, fuel rail, injectors, valve cover, intercooler, bucket full of turbo parts, functioning T3, SVO 5 lug brakes and what ever other 2.3t parts I have in the garage for that car.

I don't think I'd be chompin to tear that one apart either. Yea, it will provide parts for your other projects but I think if someone is willing to give you all the parts you need from their stash this car should be restored. It deserves attention as much as any other projects you currently have. There is no reason to strip it. It does go against all that we here stand for.

But, it is your car, and we have to respect that.

Not that I am supporting that poor turbo getting chopped up.

Listen,

I would be the last to destroy a car that is salvageable but, its just not there.

Here are some more shots: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=250019650170&ih=015&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT

It photographs well but, what it is amounts to a good powertrain and "body in white" after some work on it.

Anything boltable to the shell is rusted trash. The car is from Ohio by Pittsburgh so you know what I am talking about as far as rust. The car was Ziebarted but half-assed Ziebarted.

At some point in time, its just not worth it. This is 600 dollars of 2.3 Turbo parts and Body parts I need for my next 2 projects in a nice rolling package. Nothing more nothing less.

Realize this too, this is the inside of our Turbo Anny: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c261/rstel/IMG_0843.jpg

The Turbo Anny should be the parts car for this GT Turbo but, The Anny wins.

So, call me a "butcher" or whatever I really dont care. There is a big difference between someone who parts up cars for profit (I cant recall the last time I sold anything) versus someone who can return 2 significant foxes back.

Everything looks saveable in pictures.

I saw this car in person. Lets just say it would have been cheap.

I didnt buy it. It was only good as a parts car. Sure, it could be driven for a a little while longer if one where to make extnesive saftey repairs. But its not a car that would ever be nice again without spending **** loads of money.

Everyone wants them to be "saved" but only as long as its someone else doing the work and spending the money.

How about this............

Tell me why not a single person followed up on the T-top coupe I found in the junkyard.

Hell, people were almost getting into fist fights because there is one thats getting modded, and not restored. Yet there is a good shell getting crushed ina few days and no one wants it.

Just reviewing the eBay listing.. car has no title. It may or may not be impossible to ever register this thing again anyway.
I also respect and trust GT350R's input. He's a respected and valued member of this community, as is Rich. And since they are both the only ones to actually see the whole car in person, I'm going to have to believe them. If the shell has any rust in any structural areas (which are bad enough in mint condition on these beercan-on-wheels unibodies), coupled with the fact that it has no friggin title, it should qualify as a "unsalvagable" car. To be throwing around the term "butcher" is a bit excessive, especially considering Rich's true Four Eyed Pride. If the shell can be saved, I'm sure someone with a clean shell would be more than willing to trade, right?

Well, starting with the car needing everything , remember, it sat in grass for a number of years , but that was only after sitting on a moist barn floor for about 6 years. So the rust is in all different spots (except its still toast under the doors and hatch).
Any time you see a car that "only" needs brake lines , you can bet its toast underneth , no matter how good it looks up top.

Yeah, the pics he put up show the floor pans looking GREAT!!!!!

But last I recall , sound deadening does not rust. Notice the reat seat belts bolts. They are rusting through from underneth. Like I said, its not rusty in the normal areas. When a car sits on grass, the higher areas rust. Like the floors will look scalely , but up in the strut towers will be toast. Up in the higher area in front of the gas tank will be toast. Just depends on how how the moisture line is.

GT350R
08-30-2006, 10:49 AM
Hell, to put it another way. Its not even a good parts car for someone to just part out. Its only good for someone who needs everything in one shot to put a car together.

I could have had it cheap. Weather to fix it or part it. I'm not afraid of either.
I didnt buy it.

Hey , let me know of you have trouble finding Anny seats.

So the uni-body is solid on that car or not? With the rust showing on the doors and hatch I cant believe that the underside isnt rotten.

I had that blue '83 Capri RS that looked great in pictures but if you jumped up and down on the front end it would have broke in half.

I hate to see a GT Turbo get parted but based on the information that was presented, not to mention being from PA originally and knowing the harsh winters and road salt. I think that using it to save the life of 2 other hard to find 4 eyed cars is the right thing to do. As much as I hate to admit we can't save them all no matter how much we want to.
