Im having some trouble with spark blowout under boost up top but it runs pretty good otherwise. In the pics everything is covered in oil as the damn valve cover gasket leaks (stupid expensive felpro).
Motor is from an 84 svo along with the trans. Shifter is the stock Hurst from the svo, the shift knob is gonna go though as its too damn big.

Yeah...only get the Ford one or a cork crappy gasket. I hate that blue POS. I got mine to work so far, but i'd hate to have to pull the valve cover again.

no ****, i didnt think it was gonna be this loud, people know whats up as soon as the clutch comes out.
Its has to be spark blowout. ive checked everything else. its starts sputtering and missing only under heavy load (WOT run) i can usually do a burnout in first annd second clear to redline with no problem and after it does it you have to feather the throttle until the plugs dry out, if you lot off completely it will die and oyu have to let it set for a few seconds before it will start again.

Ok, plug gap?
What wires?
Are you 1000% sure its not detonation considering your dont have air over your intercooler?

Yea, I was just gonna ask how do you cool the air charge without SOME airflow through that thing??? Its probably acting more like a heatsoak than anything else, sitting right above that smoking hot turbo.

It acts like a heatsoak WITH a scoop :D I never had a problem with mine before I cut a hole though. In fact seems it just got worse afterwards :(

how do you diagnose spark blowout? does it jsut feel like a miss or is it just a loss in power?

just close the gap on the plugs .025-.030, if it goes away, you were right. i have also had a bad tps do this, even though it ohmed out good.

Yea, you need to get some air over the IC. The stock hood is just so clean looking. If you don't go frontmount, a early Fox hoodscoop works decent. My buddy did a 2.3T in a 89 notch and bought a 79-82 front facing scoop. Cut a rectangular hole right above the IC and covered it with the scoop centered on the hood cowl. Looked pretty clean too.

Yeah like my scoop. Although I never had a problem without the scoop previously. But now I have water stained aluminum :(

If you can get your hands on the one half of a 5.0 stock airbox, the lid part almost fits overtop the stock TC intercooler. What we did with my buddies 84.5 GT Turbo convertible, was fit that over the top of the I/C then used dryer ducting down to a rectangular scoop [from the dryer / plumbing section].
For fun, well, to test if it works, we unhooked the tubing and went for a ride in town, let the I/C get nice and hot, then plubed it back up, and headed out to the country... about 5 mins drive.. and by the time we got out there and opened the hood the I/C core was cool to the touch.
