Ive noticed the cap will fit either way. Is the marked number 1 terminal to the front or back?

That is unusual; it should only fit one way.... must be a defective cap...
The #1 on the cap should be "at the top", with you standing in front of the car & looking at the motor\distributor.

Cap fits two ways. #1 is usually near the inspection port depending on how you have the plug wires routed.
If you moved it you'll probably end up needing to set the engine to top dead center and seeing where the rotor is pointing to. That I think is #1.

Well, im putting this thing back together. Getting ready to put the timing belt on. Got the engine TDC, put the cam pulley mark in the center of the alignment tab of the cover, now I guess I just turn the accessory pulley till the rotor lines up with the number 1 terminal on the cap????

I'm real rusty on that since I try to keep the distributor in the engine block :)
But the way I have mine set is that the engine is TDC, I have the rotor pointing somewhat towards the intake(towards the firewall) and that is set as #1 cylinder to fire off of.

That is what I was thinking, just wanted to make sure. Thank you all for the help, Im sure there will be plenty more questions as this car grows.
