I am having issues getting the Holley/Weber "right" .

I could go into a list of issues and tries with it but, in hind sight is there another option?

Has anyone utilized another Carb in place of the OEM carb and if so, did you use an adapter plate etc??

Thanks

Holley 350 2 barrels work great on 2.3s. I'm not sure about the adapter on a turbo engine, but on a regular 2.3 with the Holley-Weber, you just take off the plate under the carb and bolt down a spacer of the same thickness. You will need a different air cleaner housing as well though.

You dont want to rebuild the original one?

With the three carbed turbo cars I've owned, I've never had a problem that would make me want to switch carbs. I rebuilt a couple and they worked just fine.

I would think that the only reason why someone would want to switch carbs is if they are doing mods to the motor.

Along with the Holley 2bbl an Autolight 2100 would work as well. With either I would worry about hood clearence. The early turbo required the hoodscoop since the carb sat so high. Using a taller carb with a larger air cleaner would make matters worse.

Dont forget, I got Mustang "Bowl "O" Spaghetti" with mine.

I'm missing half the vac system although, it runs ok when warmed kind of.

The EVTM for 79 is Worthless on the Vac side.

Its got a wicked flat spot right off idle thats not in the base motor.

I wish I knew EXACTLY what my father did to his old 80 Capri RS turbo. That thing ran great and put the smack down to my 87 IROCZ. The IROC was a 5.7 TPI car with flows, air foil, K/Ns and a home made ram air. Ran consistant 14.0s back home in Iowa and that darn carbed turbo capri whipped my butt by two car legths up to about 90mph.

What I know he did.

Big exhaust including the cross over pipe, header, more boost, aftermarket carb and a S/B air filter that was originally designed for motorcycle aplications. Still had the 4spd and 3.73s in a trac lock 7.5 rear end. He also made the factory slapper bars functional and adjustable.

That car ran darn good and it was his daily driver for over 7 years in the freezing cold -30 degree Iowa winters.

The car has since become a racer with a small block chevt dropped into it. Some guy in MO owns it now.
