Why do all the ltd lx's I see have front vent windows? Mine doesn't have them? Where they an option? Mine was shipped pretty "optionless". Mine was also ordered with hand crank windows. Could that have something to do with it? About the only option I know of was the 20gallon fuel tank.
OOps, OK.. I see there is another ventless in the photo albums..
I'm feeling better now.

every ltd i've seen has had wind wings, or 'vent windows' as you call them. both ltd wagons we have, as well as the two ltd lx's we have had, have them. the musmont, however, doesnt have them, but its a fairmont.
My LTD LX originally came without the vent windows. Those cars with manual roll up windows tended to NOT have the vent windows, while those cars with power windows tended to have the vent windows.
Late in 85 Ford figured out how to do the opposite combination.
The power window doors I added to my LTD LX added quite a bit of weight, and now I am looking to change back.

i should mention, both ltd wagons are 84's with roll-up windows and wind wings
My 78 V8 Fairmont with AC and non-power windows had the vent windows. My 81 I6 Zephyr with AC had them as well. So does my LTD LX.
It should be a AC related thing on these cars... usually.

What do you mean by that? AFAIK, if it has power windows, it has vent windows.
All the brochures I have seen (granted only 84 or 85) show that vent windows were required with power windows, and all the cars I have seen verify that.

reminds me of a quote about wind wings from my dad...
"this is 2 by 60 air conditioning. open 2 wind wings, go 60mph!"

The vent windows are directly related to the POWER WINDOW setup. You cannot have power windows without the vent window setup as the window motor mounts in the door in the area below the vent window glass. The non-vent window glass is different (longer forward) and will not clear the motor - I tried this when I went to convert my 78 Zephyr non-vent manual window setup to power windows. You can have manual windows with the vents but not power windows without them. I just installed the entire glass setup from a vent window car (LTD/Marquis) to get my power windows. I also converted all the glass to tinted glass at that time too. I hope this clears up any confusion.
Please click here to check out my ‘78 Zephyr at my crappy Cardomain webpage (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/773108/1)

If you mean power windows without the vent setup, I have never seen that on a Fox LTD/Marquis.

Paul, scott - if you use the Hollander interchange built in to car-part.com, or mypartshop.com, it appears possible to get power windows without vent windows.

PS are sail mirror doors fundamentally different than w/o sail mirror doors? Can the rear view mirrors interchange?

Those interchanges are WRONG. For F/Z and L/M
NO vent windows = NO power windows.

I'd be inclined to agree with you.
And we use Hollander fairly frequently at work and I have found it to be wrong on occasion.

I do not know anything about Hollander, etc. But I do know that they are wrong about the F/Z L/M power windows. Ive never seen a L/M - any year - with power windows and no vent windows. To say that 'Ford figured it out' in late 85 is BS. The L/M was already in the scrap heap by late 85 with all of Ford efforts being on the new Taurus and future FWD cars.
If you have a F/Z or L/M and want power windows and do not have vent windows get ready to put them in.
