If you want that stock look go for the 85 Mustang tubular exhaust manifolds. These have the heat risers. They are 2.5" at the flange. You can also use the 1985 2.5" y-pipe.

When LTDScott owned my LTD LX he had installed the 85 Mustang 2.5" tubular exhaust manifolds and a 85 Mustang 2.5" y-pipe that had been modified with a 3" single exhaust.

I do not believe that stock 86+ Mustang headers will work with the stock heat riser valve on the driver's side or the stock Y-pipe. You'll have to stick with earlier stuff, like the 85 Mustang headers like marz menitoned
