Hey guys I am doing a heart transplant on this car and was wondering what everybody is using for headers? The block will 302.
Will mustang headers work or do you have to be zephyr/fairmont specific?

I sure hope the mustang applications work, there is a ton of it for sale and cheap too!

Thanks

I take it you don't need to worry about smog issues... right?

The Mustang and the Fairmont engine bays are the same. This is one of the cool things about the Fairmont/Zepyrs (F/Z) and the Mustang. Most of the stuff from a FOX Mustang will swap right over to a F/Z. There are some things that wont work well (or at all)... but those are few.

JBA headers are really good... but expencive unless you find them used.

BBK headers are good and not as expencive as JBA's

FRPP has a good set of headers.

Good luck.

Will automatic column shift linkage interfere with headers?

Oops... I forgot about that... That may be a problem but I'm not sure.

The reason I was asking is the clearance between the stock manifold and steering shaft are minimal. Throw headers into the eaquation and not sure what happens.

Are your comment based on experiance or reserch.

Thanks

Im running the factory stock headers on the 1989 5.0L HO engine in my '78 Zephyr (see below). Im also using the stock late Mustang 5.0L factory H-pipe, flow tubes, mufflers, and tailpipes. You will need 'extensions' between the flow tube outlets and the muffler inlets to account for the F/Zs ~5 inch longer wheelbase vs a Fox Mustang.

Nice Merc buddy! I love those cars. I run the stock 5.0 headers that came on the 93 engine. I have the floor shift AOD not a colmn shift. Good luck, Ken.

I was holding off putting on my headers and duals, waiting for the answer to the column shift question.............problem solved; bought a Capri parts car and going 5 speed......will be using lowbuck '86 factory headers and gutted H pipe.

Sounds like a good idea. Let us know how it works out, Ken.
