This is DeanT's wagon of evil! DeanT has some stuff done to it so I'll let him post the details... and the custom ground cam he had made for more torque. I can tell you this though... it has more kick than any stock Fairmont I've had.

haha, I kept telling my wife about a blue Ford I want to buy (you know which one), so when I saw this thread, I showed the pics to her and said that's the car I want to buy.

"That's so ugly! 'Why would you want that? I'll never ride in it!"

and

"Your LTD is way cooler." I'm not sure why.

looks nice, but i think the musmont wins in terms of evilness for a fairmont wagon.... hehe

actually... I believe he called it "the wagon of evil" cause it kept "messing" with him when he first bought it. You know... things causing problems... like breaking.

Yeah, my wife will not even get in my Z7

It would have been even worse had I wound up with a wagon like I was looking at initially.... :P

Cool wagon :)

My girlfriend likes the looks of the fairmont and will ride in it, but doesn't like driving it. I think it's because of the carbed straight 6. ...I should leave it in there or she'll want to steal it like she wants to steal the LTD... :x

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies. For the life of me I can't remember the cam specs - all I can recall is that it's about 4 degrees less in intake and exhaust than the '82-'84 Mustang's Torino cam. I don't think it's a custom ground.

Block is a '78 302, heads are E7TE with the thermactor bumps removed and the bowls cleaned up. I worked the iron exhaust manifolds as much as I could to match them to the ports. Intake is an Edelbrock Performer 302 EGR - which reminds me, I got to find the post which someone is going to replace their '85 4bbl intake with the Perf 302 EGR. He shouldn't do it, it'll be a waste of money and may even lose some performance.

11" front discs with 73mm piston Lincoln calipers. Rear has stock 10" wagon drums but the rest came from an '83 V8 Mustang. Front sway bar is 1-1/8" excop Fairmont and the rear bar came off a '91 Mustang GT.

Oh, the C4 has been rebuilt and a shift kit installed.

It's a fun parts chaser. When I get done with Friggin' and a certain '65 and '84 Mustang, I may commence Project Fairmad - Convert the wagon to a two door using Futura sport coupe doors, extend the side glass to match up, and change the lift gate to a real tail gate.

Yup, I'm definitely a nut case.

Oh yeah, I call it WOE because I went through hell to get the thing to pass emissions, then fix all the stuff the previous owner let go since he was just going to junk the car anyway.

Then there was that simple remove old drive train and install replacement on a weekend that stretched to 9 weeks...

P.S. The Musmont kicks @ss.

Heh, heh..... I've ridden in Dean's wagon & it was impressive. I really like the idea of a true sleeper & that wagon could easily fit the bill. No one would expect a mass air 347 under the bonnet..... 8)

Also... I think Dean forgot to mention the rear. I think it still has the 7.5 Track-loc with 3.08 gears that I gave him. That rear should still have it's slappers too.

I think it's one of the cool things about that car... V8 and a track loc rear with traction bars.

I keep returning to this post........I have two soft spots: beater/sleepers & wagons.
I grew up on Cape Cod and every family had a wagon; only we called them "beach" wagons because you piled all your stuff in them and went to the beach.

Dean: I love your wagon.......leave it alone and enjoy it's funkiness.........With the exception of a 5 speed and ten holes, I'm following the same blueprint for my Factory V8 FORDor.

I'd love to do a two door wagon with the longer doors from a two door car. Move the door jam back and use one peice side glass. Dean we think a lot alike! Nice car, Ken.

Thanks Ken,

With all the other project cars, I'll probably leave the wagon stock. An if my parents relinquish their ol' '65 Ford Galaxie Class wagon to me, I'll have to dump the 'Mont wagon. I'll have to strip my mods out of it before I sell it because I can't get jack for it and with that being the case, I'd rather hang onto the drive train and brakes to stuff on another Fox project.

I've been keeping my eye on a Cougar wagon a guy at work owns...

Or you can ask me If I'd want the wagon of evil... and there'd be no need to strip the mods out.
