View Full Version : 2.3 exhaust manifolds

I resently purchased a 79 Mustang Coupe with the factory 2.3 carb'd turbo. I noticed that the exhaust manifold it cracked in 3 places where the crossover pipe bolts to it. Question is, are these early turbo manifolds different than a N/A one? So far I have only been able to locate 83-up manifolds, was there a change to the manifold at that time?
The ranger manifold looks like a nice upgrade, but I'm not at a point where I want to change the crossover tube to make another one fit.
Thanks...

Believe they are just standard N/A manifolds.

The turbo and non-tubo pieces are the same. I'm not sure if there was a change to them by 83, but I don't think so. PM me if you get tired of looking for one, I have several.

I wonder if this will work. It lists 83 Capri, Fairmont, LTD, & Marquis

Looks to flow a bit better than the iron slag that is on there now...

I thought '83 went to the EFI turbo with the turbo being on the exhaust side. If it looks anything like the one on my SVO then they are different.

The manifold pictured is for a N/A 2.3 which should fit the 83 2.3 in different cars. Since it looks like the 79-81 turbo uses an N/A exhaust manifold, I was wondering if this would fit.
Now, if someone would give me the EFI turbo setup, I'd be all over that too! I'm sure the carb turbo is going to be persnickety as hell.

Thats the same as my 85 and 86 manifolds and the later Ranger one I got from a junkyard.
