View Full Version : Isn't it time for a SoCal get together at the dragstrip?

I think it's time to head out for a weekend get together at Palmdale.....
1) BYOB
2)BYOF for the grill
3)Run whatever 'ya got(even a Bronco will do jeremy...;) ).
4) Plan it out at least 20-40 days in advance for good planning purposes.
5)We park together & get a least nice group pic's
6) Give some of them "up north" new FEP members a reasonable chance to mingle with unfamiliar SoCal FEP members
7)Palmdale usually opens the gates at 9 am & racing is done by 4pm. You can hang around, B.S., etc until far later or get a nice\convienient head start on a long drive back home......
March 4th, 11th, 18th, & 25th(Every Saturday for the month)
March 19th= the only Sunday available next month.....
Whadda 'ya all think?
P.S. I'l commit even though it might not be the biggest gathering....
The only way i won't show is if my ride is broken beyond repair & that is not often...;)

depends on when it is and if I have my car traile rby then. I might be in L.A> working fo ra few months so it all depends. I could tow my car there for the week ahead of time and spend the weekend there. Just elave my car and trailer at my dad's house then go up on the sat. But liek I said depends on what i will have going on. I am up for startingto plan it if you guys are.

Yeah.... I'm flexible on this. One of the advantages of being a bachelor. I can go whenever.
It's more of getting commitments from people; no matter how they have to get there once a date is set.
I like the weekend of the 18th & 19th for a couple reasons.....
1)Open two days: half the traffic on the starting line & plenty of time for doing anything.
2)If one day is rained out; you can easily go the next & still get together.
3) If you don't run the numbers Saturday; you have time to make changes & go back on Sunday...;)

for me it is all dependant on if I get my trailer home intime or not yet. I would prefer to trailer there and back with the distance I now live from the track.. I however can go the back way and be there in 2 hours though. Let me try to get moving on getting ths trailer home. It may need tires on it or something. I am getting it for free and it has been sitting. I need to check out the tire situation on it when I get it home.

actually, it should be plenty of time for people to get themselves ready.
I know there are a couple things I need to deal with on my car before I want to race it, and I can definitely have it ready before then.
So should we set that as "the date"

sure, I'm down for april 30th, no sooner.
Can't take the bronco to the strip, remember it's got a bad trans that won't shift right under full throttle. I'm not swapping my new one in yet either till the old one gets worse.
So long as I don't get called out tomorrow, I'll have the head with the stuck bolt off tomorrow.
so far, april 30 sounds good.

truthefully, i'm not sure when or if I'm going to **** with the vert again. I had a guy from a recommended shop come to look at my maverick this weekend for the body and paintwork. We're looking at about 11 grand to get the body and paint up to literal show-mag quality work. (that's with me doing the complete tear down and reassembly and tons of work.
I'm discussing this with my mother, and it's a STRONG possibility that this project is a go. If that's the case, the stang will get shoved to the backburner for quite some time. I'm still burned out on it anyhow. anyhow, who the hell knows at this moment
clarko, I found all the source of the play in my steering wheel, busted steering shaft!!! After I replace it, the steering should feel new.
i'd love to race you, just to see how I pit up against a new 5.8L engined bronco. However, problem is, that e4od. It's just not bad enough yet for me to warrant the work of putting my new one in yet. WIth the current e4od that's in there, I can't floor it from a stop, or it won't really shift :(
anyhow guys, haven't been around as much, but perhaps if anyone wants, I can arrange another bbq date at my place whenever too, just let me know if there is interest.

No debating or procrastinating here; I'll be there. I had to go to the shop last Saturday to help finish the rear diff install. I learned a couple things...
a)Carriers warp\ distort when an axel implodes & it is a b!5ch to pry them out....
b)metal mixed with thick gear oil is very difficult to clean out of any axel housing.... I spent no less than 2 hours cleaning it out....
c)Exploder 8.8 carriers & aftermarket 31 spline axels are beefy! I'll never fear 6,200 rpm launches again.... 8)

really look at this thread... http://salsspeedshop.com/message/viewtopic.php?t=353&sid=90c55bd9ac19307fbbf002e3502b6125
it says....
What; Sal's Speed Shop's Mustang Drag Day
When; Sunday, April 30, 2006 8am-3pm
Where; Los Angeles County Raceway (LACR), Palmdale, CA
Who; YOU and about 150 Mustangs & Fords
Cost; $20 to race / $10 to watch
Format; Open Grudge/ Test & Tune only.
NHRA rules apply.
Bring your Mustangs.
Bring your Fords.
Bring the family.
Bring your friends.
BUT PLEASE LEAVE THE EGOS & ATTITUDES AT HOMES!!!
See you all at MUSTANG DRAG DAY!!
And this thread explains why...http://salsspeedshop.com/message/viewtopic.php?t=338&sid=90c55bd9ac19307fbbf002e3502b6125
Due to the addition of SCEDA on the race schedule. All bracket classes have been eliminated. All lanes available to us will now be open grudge/test & tune. If any other changes are forthcoming, look here for that information.
No classes only test&tune and grudge matches according to Sal.
and here....http://salsspeedshop.com/message/viewtopic.php?t=338&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15
Sal states he's not bringing his own stang to run.
they are trying to set up on bracket class but Sal is saying even that will take up too much time. It will just be a regular day at LACR only some extra stangs there. No classes.
anthonydalrymple
04-20-2006, 10:31 AM
Darn.... Sal must not have the time to go over to the SoCalhorsepower forum & modify his thread..... I can live with the fact there is no bracket racing though. I do not have to win a class, a trophy, or anything for that matter. I'd much rather just run ocassionally, kick back with everone I know, meet new mustang\capri owners, take pic's, & simply have a nice laid back fun day...... In reality, isn't that better?

I keep up on sal's site, he doesn't seem to update much of anything anywhere else.
Yeah I need to do some tunning on my car but I am getting the new intake as soon as my tax return gets here so it will all have to be redone anyway. I have not tested the car at the track since I got those new struts on forever a go. I still need to save up for those new heads again. I am trying to quickly save up for a set of slicks right now. Unfortunately I will probably have them about two weeks to late for the race. But that is ok atleast i will have them. Then i'll have to buy a set of wheels to use for skinnies up front. I am going to do gears again and go with 4.10s this time.I also want a tfs stage 1 cam. I am going to be boxing in my stock lower control arms this weekend. I still have to put the linelock on the car. After all of that is finally said and done It will be time to put an elctric fuel pump on the car with a sump added to my tank in prepration for the N20. After teh N20 is added I should need a roll bar.

TTT This Sunday!
We need to keep this thread at the top all week; we need a strong showing! Why, do you ask? Because it will become exclusive to Fords if we always show up in force! It once was a "Ford" only event until a couple events were extremely thin & the owner(Bernie) decided to start jamming in "other" groups in on the same day..... Keep in mind one thing; if your car is not ready to run or still up on jackstands... Come anyways! Meet everyone you've know only by thier handle's on FEP, Corral, SoCalHorsies, etc.... ;)

Well I have been having a moral delimna of my own. I found out a few days ago that my inlaws were goign to be in town on sunday. So my wife has been extremely mad at me for a few days because of me going to this race. I think right now the best thing for me to do is visit with teh inlaws and make a date for may to go run my car and have some fun. I should have my new intake on teh car by then and maybee some slicks. My selfishness side is saying that I should go racing, while my other side is saying visit with the inlaws. The Inlaws are buying us a crib that day as well. I keep trying to convince my self that if I wait 3 or 4 weeks then go race I can have way better times with my car and have more fun. I will need to tune it at that time anyway. So regretabley I think I am goign to have pass again. I feel like I keep being unrealiable and I hate that feeling. It's not the kind of person I am. I worked so hard to make sure the car was ready to go, even borrowed a trailer to use. I should have my trailer done in a few weeks anyway though. Iuggg it even makes me unhappy to make this post. But I guess it is the responsible thing to do and the right thing to do. I don't even liek my inlaws. Ugh Ugh UGH!!!!!!!

I was avoiding having to constantly figure out how I was goign to go. I also had to wait to see if I got the day off work. So I will wait a few weeks and go up and make my passes and have fun and not have an argument going on in my house. Plus I will need to tune the car with teh new intake on it and if I go this sunday I won't be able to afford to go back in a few weeks. I am hoping to have my slicks by then too. I am also hoping to have my trailer finished so I can tow my car there. I will make up a post with the day I plan to go after I check teh skeduel and request the day off of work.
