Congrats, looks like a good car to start with!
It's funny how these cars were optioned. Yours has the lighting package (corner lights and door key lights) and power locks but manual windows. Neither of the LTD LXs I have owned have had the light package, but both had power windows. Only one had power locks.
Seems like these cars were sold with a lot of a la carte options.

Nice LTD! I'm jealous of your driver seat... mine came with a crappy red mustang one :( . Mine looks just like yours inside with the wires all over the place. Fun times. Good luck with the project!

Nice LTD LX. It looks as if you woun't have too much to resotre... it looks fairly good as it is. Though, I'd toss a roller HO with the stock CFI, a shift kit in there, an 8.8" with 3.73 gears (don't forget to keep the LTD LX 10" drums), a 87 11" disc upgrade, new koni shocks all around, and subframes. That's how my LTD LX is currently set up... and it handles very well for a car it's size. People are very suprized that it can hadle like it does... specially the BMW's.
With the Saab... I hear you need to buy one Saab and keep it just for parts for the DD.

My LTD LX came with manual roll up windows, from those I've seen it is somewhat of a rarity.
When I swapped to the current doors (power windows) I was shocked at how much heavier the doors were. The reaplcements had some bondo on them but not enough to account for the weight difference. First thing I noticed was the car heeling more in cornering.
The manual doors, I could hold up myself while a helper onbolted the door hinges. The power ones had to be balanced on a flooor jack, difference might have been 20 lbs or so.

That's interesting about the doors, zak. I had no idea that they were both a rarity and so much lighter. Mine has manual windows in it ... but I'm not getting rid of them. :)

LTDLX85,
Nice looking car!
I am building an LX clone from my wifes 85 Marquis and thought how much SHE would enjoy a steering wheel just like yours! Where might I find one for HER?
OK, I am the one who wants it. And I want one NOW!!!!

That's a stock steering wheel isn't it ? I have one from my LTD LX, but if I remember right it's in pretty crappy condition...
...if you're as desperate as you sound I can try and find it and see if I'm right. :)

Maybe this is the obvious, but the getting hot & tstat closed problem happened to my mustang once (after a head swap - drained & refilled coolant) and it was because not all the air was out of the system... just throwin it out there.

How can the upper hose be hot if the t-stat isn't opening?A hot upper hose is typically how you can tell that the t-stat has opened. And you say there is no heat?
Almost seems to me that you may have a wrong rotation water pump. Rather than pumping water from the rad, into the lower hose, through the engine, past the t-stat and out the upper hose, it appears it may be trying to pump the wrong way.
Are you sure the pump you bought is a reverse rotation unit? A lot of parts stores have problems making a distinction between the LTD and LTD Crown Vic. I believe the Crown Vic uses a std rotation pump whereas our LTD uses a rev rotation.

Your car does not have an idle air control valve. It has an idle speed control motor that actually pushes the throttle open. The one on my old LTD LX didn't work so I just disconnected it and manually adjusted the idle stop screw for the throttle at a reasonable engine speed.

The headliners in these cars are on a backer board.

I had my headliner and visors professionally recovered. Well worth the $100 or so.
