Still working on the trunk of my coupe. I ordered a new trunk mat from a Fox body parts supplier, but it doesn't fit very well-- see pictures, it's cut too small. Also it isn't particularly close to the original material. I suspect my best course of action will be to find some felt material closer to the original, and cut it myself. Then I can (somehow) stitich it to the thick underlayment.
Anyone gone through this process and have some advice?

Go to your local Joanne Fabric's or whatever super craft supply store & look around. You'll be amazed at all the felt backed vinyl, cloth, felts, foams, etc to choose from. Best part? It's dirt cheap! I bought 2 yards of felt backed blue vinyl that was enough material to do both the headliner & the rear speaker deck\shelf on my car. Cost? $15. I used 3M superduty spray adhesive. About $10 a can; available at your local Home Depot or Napa.
You can use your origional backing, buy the spray adhesive, & find the material that best matches your origional.... If nobody has the material your looking for? Ask if they have a felt\fabric sample book you can look throught & you might have to special order what you want....

Hmmm... how 'bout a wrecking yard? These trunk pads were in all notches; seems like if you look thru enough trunks, you may find a good one. Consider posting a "wanted" ad here on FEP, and PM some of our junkyard cruisin' members (v8only, TL82TtopLX, etc.) and ask them to keep an eye out for you.

the carpet you need is available at most stereo shops. It's called Ozite, and they use it on speaker boxes. It's the correct charcoal color with randomly interlaced silver threads. Get some of that and cut it to the correct shape using the original as a template. Then get some generic jute sound deadener and glue it to the carpet with headliner adhesive. Problem solved.
