i was looking for some replacement headlight retainer rings in resto 5.0 bwtf i am not going to pay those high prices. i was thinking of either painting them or having them refinished but that will probably cost and arm and a leg too!

I think those were common to many 4-eyed Fords of the time. They shoud be a cheap find in the junk yards. The ones on my vehicles have never been in bad enough shape they didn't clean up and poklish up very nicely. I don't think any of them were painted from the factory.

Yeah, just get some decent used ones and buff them up.
Those prices from 50Resto are what Ford is probably charging for them now. They are probably not repros as repros would be much cheaper.

These are more of a universal setup, and i'm not sure if they are chrome or black, i think chrome.
