I pretty sure that the mats in my car are the original, I was just curious if any one could verify it. Does anyone know if they were an option or if they came automatically with the car?

They definitely look "period correct" All the Ford ones i recall from that time were just a color-matched textured vinyl with no decoration. It's possible they were aftermarket bought around the same time as the car. That's just my best guess.

Aftermarket. Those look to be cut in the old 60s Shelby style.

If they were a factory ford part they should have a part # on the back correct?

From what they look like I would say there aftermarket myself.

Cool,

Thanks for all the replies......I was told by my dad that he thought they came with the car. My grandma bought the car brand new in April of 1983 and he said he remembered them in the there.....but it looks as if granny bought some floor mats.

Well, don't toss them away too quick. I looked through my 1981 Accessories guide and they don't picture those exact ones but the ones shown look about as goofy.

I don't know if I have any 82-84 accessory guides....I'll keep digging.

the '86 accessories book i have shows two different types of mats. one type is carpeted, the other is just rubber/vinyl. neither looks like the ones in your pictures, kippen. they don't offer ones with "ford" on them.

they did offer escort, EXP, and tempo carpeted ones though.

Yep, I found my 79, 80, 81, 85, 86 accessory brochures and don't see anything resembling those.

Maybe they came out of a Shelby Cobra GT500KR? ;)

I'm not going to toss 'em or anything.......I kinda like them. So they'll just stay in my car....even if they are goofy :D

I swear Mustangs Unlimited used to have them
They've got something similar w/ Mustang, Shelby, GT 350, etc.
I thought I saw a bunch of Tony Branda ads with "Ford" ones also

To me its seems as you found a correct match minus the FORD.
