red recaros

Anybody ever seen red Recaro seat covers offered anywhere? Just like the pace car, but red and black.

The recaros were optional in black, red, tan, and blue.

The red color was more red and white. Its pretty rare to see any other color than black.

I've heard of the blue, but never tan. Interesting. I should be happy I got black ones I guess.

The tan is called Caramel and the red is called Vaquero.

I have a swatch of the vaquero cloth and it seems too orange compared to the medium red interior in my 82. Are the side bolsters medium red with a matching medium red recaro cloth or is the vaquero insert orangy? Does anyone have a clear photo showing the colors? This is a helpful thread for me. Yes Vaqero is not red. It has more orange in it.

The 1980 Ford colors and trim selections book lists the recaro color options as being: black, blue, caramel, and vaquero.

The only vaquero recaro seat I have seen in person looks red but in my book the actual swatch does look kinda orangish.

I have a small picture from a 1980 (or 81) accessory guide with a Capri with the Vaquero and it looks like a burnt orange/red...all over. The sides are not red.

Damn you guys are going to make me pull out my accessory catalogs now...

Ok, I am going to attempt to attach a picture of a couple of swatches of recaro material I have had for a while. The seats are in my 82 GT with medium red interior. For the restoration forum: is the vaquero cloth the acutal red recaro material for "1982", what color are the side bolsters cloth supposed to be? red or vaquero...?, and what color is the side naug supposed to be... This has troubled me since I didn't opt to wait for a car with red recaros. Ok, no idea of how to post a pic. Do you post from a jpg resident on my computer?

I give up. What is that other color swatch you have and what did in come in? Is that the caramel? It looks orange.

Greg, your last page shows vaquero. Suprising how red it looks. I'm pretty sure the orangish swatch is vaquero. I have always been amazed at how much it clashes with the medium red interior. I never remembered or thought it was quite right. Especially if you assume the bolsters and vinyl are medium red. Thats why I'm hunting for the answer. A few good pictures of a red recaro in an 82 (or otherwise) would show the answer. Seems easy doesn't it. And I haven't been able to answer it for years. Thanks for helping. It always trips me up when I realize this thing that is so fresh to me is almost 25 years old.

I might be able to mount a few pictures that will help here...in 2000 I bought an 81 RS out of a backyard that someone was trying to stuff a 351M into...too bad it was 6 cyl. car! :roll: Car was fairly basic, but had a nice recaro interior (red...well, vaquero) and I took some good pictures of this interior when I decided to sell the car the following year, sans motor/tranny. (I wasn't going to part it) I have the pictures here but will be unable to scan them in till monday. FWIW, I had never seen a tan recaro interior either, till I grabbed a hurtin' one out of a wrecked 81 mustang a few months back. At least the back seat looks decent...anyway, as soon as I get back to Saskatoon I'll post these pictures.
