OK, this is probably an odd request lol
I'm setting up my interior panel laquering shop in the attic
The rear hatch panels had these...wood things over where (I'm assuming) the factory speakers would go
Yeah wood, lol, it's a previous owner thing, check out the dash...and shifter and e-brake handles
http://www.foureyedpride.com/phpBB2/album_pic.php?pic_id=2621

So I pull off these wood things and it's just a hacked hole in the panel
Does anyone have any pics of what it's supposed to look like?
Is there a factory speaker grill, or was it part of the panel and on these it's been cut out?

Oh yeah, it's an '86 GT if that makes a difference

Thanks in advance for any input and/or pics

The top panel I am holding has stock speaker holes. Those go from 79-86 I believe. There are speaker covers to go in that place.

Ut oh...
Sorry, Thanks Mike for the quick response
Ut oh because I think I'm in trouble here

I got suspicious that it wouldn't leave the factory with such rough edges
Looks like the factory hole was widened at some point
Even if I had the grills, I don't know it they would cover the hole now
There would certainly be no place to attach them anyway

I'll compare the pics to what I have left here...you don't have a measurement on that hole do you?

It's going to be roughly 5.75"x8". Those are the dimensions of the stock Premium Speakers if I remember it.

Probably the speaker holes were butchered for 6x9s...which is about the most common aftermarket speaker size.

Yup
I brought your pic and the tape up there
Big surprise...6 1/2 by 9 1/4
By the pic it looks as if the holes are gonna be too big for the grills, even if I figure a way to attach them
Damn
I don't suppose there's any hope that they'll cover it huh?
Ah poop... :grumble:

The stock grills don't overlap much.

They might do it barely.

Easiest is to find new rear speakers and covers.

Or hunt down new unbutchered panels....which is becoming exceedingly hard to do.

Yeah
It was after searching at Fords @ Carlisle and saw what was available (bleh), and discussing it with you if I remember right, that I decided to paint these
I was looking forward to it

For some reason I was thinking I would find holes or slots in the panels themselves underneath the wood (a la dash speakers)
I thought he covered them up because he went to a box for the speakers in back
I didn't realize he had butchered the holes for 6X9s

Hmmmm...what to do, what to do...

I might try and pick up a set of grills and see if that's even a possibility with these panels

Thanks for all your help Mike
