Got a call from another Fairmont/Zephyr enthusiast.....seems he's come up with two Fairmonts and one Zephyr for parts. He lives in Lubbock; has no place to store them (Lubbock has tough zoning laws) and has no car trailer.
In exchange for my help and trailer, I'm getting all three after he pulls some parts.....He's not taking much, so I'll end up with a whole bunch of West Texas rustfree parts........will keep everyone informed....I've already stripped three for my personal parts source.

I'm going into Lubbock tomorrow morning to visit with the fellow with the three Fairmonts. The guy is a real flake but here's what I know: The car I'm real interested in is a base model baby blue '80 fordor....it's a real clean 6 banger.....I want this one to convert to V8. Then I'll part out my '78 V8 daily driver. (I don't like the side trim on the '78....and don't want to weld up all the trim holes)
As far as the other two go....it gets murky......one is a Fairmont; one's a Zephyr......One's a fordor; one's a two door........the flake does not which is which and does not know the difference between a two door sedan and a Futura.
After we take off whatever is necessary for his one owner '82 4 banger/4 speed fordor......I get the remains......mostly complete.

Any chance one might have a decent dashtop? :D :D :D

No chance in West Texas............pre '87 mustang dashes interchange and are available in repro

Repro are too expensive, but thanks anyway.

They also make a plastic cap that glues down over the dashcap and when properly done, is nearly undetectible.........costs something like sixty bucks and solves the cracking problem forever.

I've seen some for around 80 I think, do you know somewhere that sells them for 60? I'd rather do that than get a repro for twice as much.

I'd have to hunt through my magazines........I'm going with a repro dashpad when I get some "found" disposible income..........first off though, I'm concentrating on gathering up all the mechanical bits to build my FORDor Mustang GT.........I have not been able to find a trashed out '87-'93 GT at a reasonable price to part out so I've been bottom feeding off the Mustang guys who are doing 5 lug conversions/tremec conversions etc.....sort of automotive dumpster diving.

What do you need a dashcap for? I've got one from one of my dearly departed LTD LX's. Last I looked it was in pretty decent condition. If you like, I'll pull it out and assess its condition. Chuck

Actually that would be different from the 'Mont..HOWEVER....it should be the same as what is in my '80 XR-7....if you can check it out and snap a pic I'd appreciate it.

Yep, Chuck's right - not the same as a fairmont, but thanks anyway!

Sorry, I have'nt answered you, Chuck. Been working on the house. I'll get a picture of it to you in the next couple days.
Speaking of your XR-7, I love those cars. I had a Silver Anny 'bird and was foolish enough to let it go. I'm on the lookout for another one. But a loaded '80-'82 Cougar would be a nice substitute. Chuck

No Cougars, but how about a nice T-Bird (not mine)?

Thanks for the lead MasterBlaster. I saw the T'bird but was even more interested in the Granada wagon before it for $399. Although I have'nt the foggiest idea how far BC is from me here in Southeast Michigan. How is the sheetmetal around there? Is rust a MAJOR issue?
Chuck, I've got to go in my storage garage tomorrow. I'll pull it out and get the pic then. You'll hear from me sometime tomorrow evening. Chuck
