Drive an old beater pickup....wear old work clothes....leave the Rolex at home

True, true. If the junkyard sizes you up as someone with extra cash burning a hole in your pocket rather than some schmo just trying to put his beater back on the road, it can cost ya.

It's also helpful to build a relationship with a yard if at all possible. Find good ones and go back on a regular basis so they get to know you and they wind up cutting you deals due to your being a regular customer.

Get off the beaten path....troll the "lower socio-economic" neighborhoods....get out into the surrounding area and small towns...if you got false teeth; leave 'em out.

You can get whole cars for less than one part at the yard...take off your parts; drag the carcass over the scales.....pay for your trailer and get your parts for free real quick.

Two more.

Join a local mustang club and make lot's of friend's. you would be surprised at how many time's the price's have dropped for fellow club member's.

If you are capable of it trade labor for part's. I helped a friend swap his 40k mile stock motor for a 347 and he gave me the old motor for free. The same gentleman also sold me his worked over GT40's for practicly nothing.

watch the ad's for the parting out car's. Call the seller and talk to him for alittle bit and then ask them what else they have laying around. Usually people are so sic at looking at all of their part's lying around that they will let you have the stuff for either cheap or free.

Go weekly & note the vehicle rotation rate. One junkyard I have too hit weekly since that is the longest amount of time they have before being crushed. Another one; I can go once a month since they really do not rotate the vehicles much at all......

Those tips are nice...if you have pick and pull yards :x Places around here don't let you in no more.

mfpmax.....go to Orlando or over to Kissimmee/ St.Cloud. The guys at St.Cloud Auto Salvage (Mike, and Fred Jr in particular) have always treated me well and allow you to pull your own parts.....same with most yards out on Colonial Ave east of the 417.
