Well, sdaturday I was lucky enough to find a complete 89 Mustang LX 5L hatch. It was fairly clean and only had one dent.... shame it was tossed. And so I grabbed the fan, fan clutch and fan shroud to unclutter the engine bay of the LX.

Well, I figured that I wouldn't need the coolent bottle cause I already had one right? Well... I was a bit suprised today to find out the the E6 Fan shroud is a bit different than the F0 shrouds... and same for the coolent bottles!

The E6 coolent bottles have two tabs at the bottom of the tank that slips into the two tabs on the E6 shroud. The E6 shroud also has two holes for these tabs. Well... my F0 coolent bottle has one LONG tab instead of two separated little ones! I wonder why Ford changed them?

Anyways... heres pictures:

You can see that on the right of the F0 coolent bottle that the tab is WAY long....

Now... look at the tab holes at the bottom of the E6 shroud!

Heres the near finished product. All I need to do now is find a E6 coolent bottle.

The Cooling issue that I had seemed to be a fan clutch problem. Before I did this E6 shroud/fan swap the temp would be fine at idle (just under 200*) but when I'd accelerate... the temp would rise by 10* to 210*. Now, with the E6 shroud, fan and fanclutch (all in great condiiton BTW) it stays just under 200*.... just like it was before the problem. I still may just swap in a hiflow water pump anyways... I still want this thing to run a little cooler than it is now. But for now this is fine.

Also on another note... I've been thinking of installing fog lamps under the front bumper of the LTD LX. Drilling holes will not be an issue since there are already a few holes in the bumper. But, I was going to toss on the lamps the previous owner of my GT had swapped on. They're still good and are smaller than the Marchals. The thing is... the lenses have "TOP" on them... does this really matter? I was going to hang the lamps suspended upside down from the bottom of the bumper. I really don't think it'll matter much.

These are the fog lamps... I think they're H4's... but not sure.

Thanks all.

i got a solution concerning about the overfill bottle. mark where the tabs would fit with a sharpie and cut off the center tab if you have access to a dremel.

Thats exactly what I was going to do!

But I'd still want a clean bottle. So a new one is going to be in the works.

Thanks

Glad you got the overflow issue figured out. I would have gone the same way except I couldn't with the electric fan I have.

I was trying to find a way to mount some foglights in the hole under the bumper above the "spoiler," but I couldn't find an easy way to do it.

I just bought a PPI replacement overflow tank that will fit the Fan shroud. New and only cost me just under 40 bux with shipping. It should arrive with in the week.

This is the tank I needed.

The fog lamp thing....

Under the bumper just outside the hole under the bumper is a spot I was thinking about. If you look at the underside of the bumper just out side of the hole... you'll see holes in the bumper where fog lamps could be suspended upsidedown. I'll see about mounting the ones I have and see how it looks.

The only thing about mounting foglights there is that they'll make the foglights sort of stick out, especially with the "spoiler" behind them.

Yeah... thats the only thing I don't like about it. But I really don't want to block that hole in the "spoiler."

Hell..... maybe theres a Ford/Merc/lincoln that has a close match to the LTD plastic under that bumper that can be used.

I wonder if the beam of light projected from the light is asymetrical. Can you take the lens out and flip it over?

Yeah... the lens can be fliped. Funny thing about that... the previous owner of my GT seemed to not know top from bottom. One top actually is at the top... the other top is at the bottom.

From the picture of the PPI (E6) bottle it looks like it has another mounting hole along the curved surface where it hugs the shroud that the FO bottle does not. So maybe the FO bottle would not have fit the E6 shroud even if you mod'd the lover mounting tabs. ??

Indeed... I found that out the hard way.

One F0 coolent bottle down the hole.

Y'know, I was looking for the overflow tanks as well (in fact I had one I could have sold you, but it was really dirty), and I never saw any of them like yor F0 unit, either in the junkyards or on eBay. Methinks it may not have been from a Mustang?

What is the rest of the part number for the "F0" bottle?

Marz

You know... I could be wrong but I could swear I took it from a V8 Mustang a while back.

There are two PN's on it:

this is on the back in the form of a ford service decal:

FOVY8A080A

This number is molded into the bottle itself:

FOVE8C045AE

I've looked the first number up and all it tells me is that it's a coolent bottle. Well DUH... I know that! It'd be nice to find out ecactly what car this came from. I may just call up my local Ford dealer when I feel better... I'm home sick right now.

Thanks

Well, it wasn't originally designed for a Mustang, but that doesn't mean it was used in them.

Don't know what model line V is for '90.

Scott....

I was looking at fog lamps and think that the SN95 Mustang fog lamps may just fit in that little opening below the bumper. Since the 94+ Mustangs are starting to be found in the yards... We should keep our eyes open.

The opening

It's possible... what do you think?

So far with out having them in my grubby haands I can only speculate about how to mount them. But as of now I feel that it may be possible to either use the mounting bracket it comes with and mount it to the bumper with a mod to that factory bracket.... or make my own.

But to be sure I would need to have a set to play with.

Remember... I'm fairly good with mounting things that arn't stock into stock factory locations. ;) I've done it to the Edsel and the Futura and those mods looked factory.

Well I went off to the yards today looking for fog lamps. I found a Escort GT and took the Marchal fog lamps. One is in nice condion... the other I think I can get to work... if not... it'll be a parts lamp and I'll have to find annother good one.

I fit the Marchals in the opening of the LTD LX and it seems tight... but should be able to work with the correct brakets.

I also scored a 140mph LTD speedo! It was in a ex-Los Angeles county V6 LTD wagon. The bezel above the glove box was cut up like it had something in it at one point... possibly gauges. You were barely able to read the L.A. county decal on the doors.

Cool. You gonna keep the speedo or sell it?

Keep the speedo for now.

Heres a couple of pictures of the marchal fog lamps in the opening under the bumper....

I think it looks good. One of the lamps that were on that I took from that Escort needs cleaning and a little repair work.

NOw I just need to grab the fog lamp harness and all it comes with from Foureyes Mustang GT.
